On Wednesday 2nd December, there was a full day of home games for DMU Netball as all three BUCs teams kicked off the Christmas season with their amazing skills and each came out triumphant- bringing some early festive cheer to the DMU campus.

First to play was their 3rd team against Anglia Ruskin (Peterborough) and although the girls were at first fearful of the overwhelming support watching them on the side lines, the team quickly found their feet and ended up winning the match with an amazing 38-16.
With the joint effort of the defence like Millie Horn working alongside attackers like Grace Garner, it was no surprise that they won, and with an amazing score too!
Their player of the match was Beth Gilbert and Player’s player was Rachel Bowman.

Second on the court, minutes after 3rd team’s celebratory win, was the 2nd team who played Bishop Grosseteste University who too- after a very eventful match, came out with another win with a score of 36-19. Eventhough there seemed to be negative ambiances coming from the opposition and also the team being down a few players, the girls stayed strong and won every quarter with their heads held high, thanks to members like Alice Newman their shooter although ill, pulling through and scoring countless amazing goals.
Even though Player of the match was not chosen by the opposition, player’s player was awarded to Lily Morris for standing in last minute for the team and playing brilliantly.

The final match of the day was played by the 1st team who brought the day to a close with another terrific win of 37-35 against Oxford Brookes. After feeling the pressure to keep the winning streak going, the girls came on court focused and it was evident through the remarkable shooting skills of Joanna Eden and Imogen Turner who both, with ease, got the ball in the net incessantly with the help and support of their fellow teammates like Charlotte Glazebrook- a defender who continuously deflected and intercepted many of the opposition’s passes.
Player of the match was awarded to Joanna Eden and Player’s player to Emma Hall.

Congratulations girls, I hope your success continues throughout the year!
