Despite a great effort from Women’s Volleyball team, DMU Dragons, Loughborough reigned victorious winning in straight sets.

Fortunes for the home side looked promising as they took an early 3-0 lead in the first set, but their visitors showed class as they responded with 7 unanswered points to take the score to 8-4. The home side struggled to break the constant wave of Loughborough points, but were finally able to, courtesy of a cheeky set shot which crept over the net and caught out the Loughborough libero. The away side regained their rhythm and built up a comprehensive lead which DMU were unable to topple and resulted in a 25-13 win in the first set.

Once again DMU started positively with a 3-0 lead. They caused last year’s winners some trouble but could not convert it into a sustained amount of pressure or points and were pinned back to 15-7. DMU struggled to get any momentum, particularly as the right and left hitters of Loughborough often managed to find space making the ball very difficult to keep in play. A valiant attempt was not enough to thwart Loughborough as the Dragons succumbed to a 25-11 defeat in the second set.

Coming off the back of a resounding victory in the previous set, Loughborough’s confidence was high and made a better start by opening up an early 3-point lead. Mistakes from DMU allowed their visitors a healthy 11-4 lead and despite the home side trying to gain the impetus through some nice shots, Loughborough killed any confidence that they tried to get with several points on the bounce.

In what proved to be the final set, Loughborough recorded an impressive victory, winning 25-13, 25-11 and 25-10.
