Drama students from DMU will feature in two plays at the Curve theatre written by an Olivier Award-winning writer.

Caryl Churchill has written ‘Fen’ and ‘Serious Money’ for the stage, and both will feature performances from students studying at DMU’s School of Arts.

Senior lecturer in Drama Studies, Dr Roger Apfelbaum, said: “The students and staff at DMU are very excited by this latest collaboration with Curve.

“Our students move on to a range of performance, production and teaching careers and this is on of the ways we ensure that courses extend beyond University studios and classrooms.

“It gives students invaluable professional experience in a state-of-the-art facility and the people of Leicester can come along and enjoy the show.”

DMU’s website states that Fen is ‘a love story, a ghost story and a story of the impact of multi-national agri-business on the local people of the English fens.’

Serious Money is ‘set under the watch of a Tory government and sees recession grip the country. With the City heading towards a meltdown, bankers and traders strike deals that reduce nations to commodities.’

The collaboration between DMU and the Curve theatre is just the latest in a long line of initiatives create by the two institutions.

The link aims to ‘develop talent, promote the value of culture within the local community and better integrate the student, academic and cultural life of the city of Leicester.’

Both plays run until 9 March and tickets for each are £5.
