Finally after a two year wait; Kanye West’s clothing line has been released. His collaboration with designer Jean Touitou (A.P.C designer) was released just over two weeks ago, with many items already sold out from pre-sales. The two came together just over two years ago with the intention of creating a hip-hop style based clothing range, featuring mostly hoodies, t-shirts and denim jeans each branded with the A.P.C x Kanye West label. The pieces are available at A.P.C retail outlets or can be ordered online from http://www.apc.fr/frfr/kanye_west-td220.html
But the bigger question in mind is, was it worth the wait?
The hoodies are a plain and simple classic design with the slits on the sides make them a stand out from the crowd. The t-shirts as well are of simple design and appealing more to westernized youth culture .They took inspiration from the stereotypical hip-hop styling of loose- fitting and rounded neck line. The pieces are well- thought out and it is the name on the brand that will make them big sellers.
But the gems that really bring the line the together and the denim jeans that come as a meet point of Jean Touitou classic motif designs and Kanye’s own urban spirit. They are of a slim leg fit and have a stone wash effect in both lighter and darker denim that then stems into some brighter coloring.
As a branch out for the artist, this has been a successful venture into the world of fashion that due to initial sales is sure to continue and hopefully encourages seeing more designs from him in the future. The classic designs make the pieces wearable for the everyday and boast a clear initiative of Kanye’s inspiration that will speak to a lot of young males today, and also boost a gap in the market that is for the hip- hop and rap music scene. I think the pieces speak of a well-spent two years where the hard work is more than shown, and now all that’s left to say is watch this space – who knows what we can come to expect – maybe Kanye will start doing a RTW men’s wear line alongside the women’s he currently does.
