With the array of fashion weeks once again upon us, it is no surprise that the blogosphere has taken a turn to the designer side. New York Fashion Week kicked off the line-up of stylish events with a vast array of designers, emerging trends and potential new prints, patterns and styles for the new Spring 14 season.
Milly by Michelle Smith
This collection is simply divine. It aims to create modern, feminine silhouettes with a quirky cosmopolitan twist. The use of mesh fabric and vibrant colours adds dimension as well as a contemporary vibe to the pieces. Since the mesh is such a light and free flowing fabric, the contrast between this and the heavier fabrics, can often be worn underneath and used as detailing. As well as the bolder colours make the collection perfect for spring. With neon being such a successful trend over the last season, it is no wonder that Michelle Smith has taken inspiration from such trend forecast and incorporated it into her work. Moreover, the monochrome trend is looking to be a strong contender for the most season-transitional pair of colours.
The way that many of the dresses fall so gracefully off the models with such ease, as well as the gorgeous tailoring that the latter dresses in the collection have enable the brand to cater for the working woman to. Talk about office-chic!
Michael Kors
There was plenty of romance in Michael Kors’ latest collection. The collection mainly consists of summer dresses and circle skirts on girly crepe and georgette fabrics, with feminine blossom and ditsy prints which is ideal for a gorgeous and classic Spring/Summer collection. Kors has an incredible talent in that he is able to make even the simplest of designs, not look simple. The use of tailoring, style or prints adds a contemporary and often subtly dramatic (oxymoron if there ever was one!) feel to the simply cut pieces.
It has to be said, the inserts of leather and fur are a welcome addition to the collection. Since the estimated release month is during February, well within skiing season, potential buyers will still be extremely grateful of the thicker, cosier fabrics and finishes. However, the separates, lace and lighter colours enable the collection to move effortlessly into the summer season too.
Oscar de la Renta
The full collection is simply divine by anyone’s standards. The beginning of the collection displayed several minimalist and monochromatic pieces which were intertwined with delicate lace and crochet fabrics. Many scalloped edges appeared which softened the ends of the pieces and created a more feminine and chic feel. However, within the same collection came a surge of colour. With vibrant and bold prints, and summery and exciting colours, Oscar de la Renta gave the high-street stores a lot of inspiration for the approaching spring season. The full skirts will go down extremely well with the older female, whilst the fun, young prints will cater to the needs of the cosmopolitan working girl.
