Last night the Royal Opera House in London played host to the Olivier Awards. The night was filled with glitz and glam with performance’s from Broadway star Bernadette Peters and ABBA’s Benny and Bjorn joining the cast of Mamma Mia. The big winner of the night was Chimerica which won five awards, followed by The Book of Mormon collecting four.

As usual the stars of both on-screen and theatre were dressed in their finest gowns and smartest suits to grace the red carpet.

Starting with the ladies, comes host of the evening Gemma Arterton who graced the red carpet in a simple yet elegant light blue Prada gown. Though Gemma’s red carpet appearances are few, she never fails to impress. Gemma completed her simple yet classy spring look with drop pearl shaped earing’s and a curly bob. Gemma proves that simplicity is more with this elegant red carpet look.

Following suit in the simple yet classy look is Hayley Atwell donning a Dsquared² white gown. There are few women who can pull off an all-white gown with little accessories for a red carpet affair, however Hayley has it spot on with this classic look. The gown matched her auburn locks perfectly, with her ruby red lips, matching nails and red and white clutch complementing her gown.

Next up is the most flamboyant  and  beautiful gown of the night worn by Myleene Klass. Myleene wowed the red carpet in a black and white floral dress from Dennis Basso’s Spring/Summer collection. The gown designed by New York fashion designer Dennis Basso proves that you can don the monochrome style whilst looking feminine at the same time.  Myleene definitely gets the best dressed award from me, especially with her glittery accessories and soft wavy hair.

First up fim the best dressed men of the evening  is Tom Hiddleston who unfortunately missed out on best actor award for his role in Coriolanus, but looked ever so dapper in an Alexander McQueen tux. No man can ever go wrong in a McQueen tuxedo with its perfect fit and quality tailoring. Tom certainly proves how a red carpet look is done; simple and classic.

Secondly is Actor and Sherlock star Martin Freeman who is pictured alongside X-Men star James McAvoy  looked dapper in a charcoal suit. Martin paired his suit with a spotted black and white tie and matching pocket square, adding a twist to the classic black and white look. Not only was I attracted to the tie and pocket square combo but also to Martins Loafers, which are becoming increasingly popular for men both on and off the red carpet.

Finally comes West-end star and winner of best actor in a musical is Gavin Creel from The Book of Mormon. Gavin ditched the classic black and white look which he is all too familiar with for his costume in the musical, for a Cobalt blue blazer and black trousers. Gavin styles the contrasting blazer and trouser combination perfectly with a black bow tie and crisp white shirt. Gavin outshines Tom and Martin slightly winning my best dressed man award of the night due to his boldness with a combo that is becoming increasingly popular for red carpet events.
