The MET Ball is always one of my favourite events on the celebrity calendar because it’s almost a competition to see not only who wears the most daring and outlandish dress, but also who reigns supreme in couture dressing.

Last years theme was Punk – which gave me major heart palpitations because I love anything punk/grunge/gothic when it comes to fashion. However, to take a spin away from the Punk theme, this years theme is ‘White Tie and Decorations’ to celebrate 50’s designer Charles James.

All the big stars attended the event and wore some of the most gorgeous and extravagant gowns to commemorate the designer and stay faithful to the glamorous theme. While a lot of the leading ladies coming up wore outfits by designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Burberry and other top names, this years MET Ball included some other great names in fashion like Emilio Pucci, Prabal Gurung and even Topshop! So let’s see who wore what and who made it on to my best dressed of the evening…

Oscar’s Leading Ladies:

Known for his exquisite ball gowns and haute couture dresses, Oscar De La Renta really did make a mark on this year’s MET Ball. Amy Adams was one of the first I saw, wearing a strapless silver De La Renta gown with a sweetheart neckline, which was a great contrast in colour against her red hair and smokey eye makeup. Taylor Swift wore a semi-embellished rose quartz pink gown with a long train, teamed with elegantly wavy hair and red lipstick, a truly beautiful look. Her new BFF Karlie Kloss stood out in a gold and black patterned dress with long gloves, and barely-there makeup. While ‘Girls’ star Allison Williams arrived in a simple coral dress and peachy makeup perfect for the almost-summer season! But my favourite from the Oscar-dressed ladies has to be Claire Danes in a gorgeous two-tone velvet and satin pink dress, accessorised minimally – unless you count her gorgeous husband Hugh Dancy!

Stella’s Gang:

Stella McCartney has quickly become one of my favourite designers with her fresh to death eveningwear. As we can see from the cool gang who wore her designs, the focus was not just on the flowing ball gowns that we could perhaps see in Oscar De La Renta’s followers. Cara Delevingne shows off her slender model figure in one of Stella’s stellar designs (ha!), a combination of a cut-out bralet and white skinny trousers helped Cara to be on fine monochrome form for the MET Ball. Rihanna wore a Custom Made white crop top and matching mermaid tail skirt to the event, showing that sometimes she can make good outfit choices! One of my ultimate style icons was also part of the Stella McCartney cool gang, Kate Bosworth wearing a peachy pink-strapped dress, with dewy makeup and a slicked back hairstyle. Reese Witherspoon’s choice of a bright pink strapless dress by the Brit designer reminds me a lot of her ‘Legally Blonde’ days, but in a truly glamorous way with a curved sweetheart neckline and gorgeously glossy curls.

The Topshop Trio:

When I saw that a few of the glamorous girls attended the MET Ball in Bespoke Topshop, I had to stop what I was doing. Topshop is primarily known for their high street attire between £5 and £100 for a majority of their items – but now that’s all about to change. Kendall Jenner surprised me when she arrived in a champagne coloured Bespoke Topshop gown, the extremely tight fitting gown with a mermaid tail worked really well against her caramel skin and dark hair and was definitely a good look. Model Chanel Iman also wore Bespoke Topshop, the futuristic silver gown with a trailing train was perfect for the MET Ball, teamed with Gatsby-style waved hair and boyfriend A$AP ROCKY in tow – Chanel definitely made a modern fashion statement! But the best look from the Topshop Trio? Zoe Kravitz who wore a wine coloured Bespoke Topshop dress that includes an extreme thigh split and super thin spaghetti straps. Her natural style of grunge-feminism shines out so well with this outfit, her laidback blonde hair and black and white accessories with the muted red theme in her makeup makes for a great evening outfit.

The rest of the MET Ball attendees:

Naomi Watts wore a greyscale ombre dress with a sheer skirt by Givenchy Haute Couture by Ricardo Tisci. Nude makeup and a slicked, side-parted hair allowed more attention to be focused on her dress and drop down earrings.

Anna Kendrick was also part of the monochrome madness that ensued at the MET Ball by wearing a strapless J Mendel gown with glittering jewels and gorgeously girly makeup.

Pink seemed to be a popular colour amongst the ladies who attended the MET Ball with Rachel McAdams adding to that on-going list in a simple Ralph Lauren dress. However, her volumised hair set her apart from the other slicked back up-dos donned by a lot of the other attendees.

‘Gossip Girl’ star Leighton Meester wore a heavily embellished Emiliio Pucci dress with glittering gold Jimmy Choo heels. Leighton’s loosely curled hair helped to give her that boho/hippy look that goes hand-in-hand with festival season.

Dakota Johnson, who has finished filming for ‘50 Shades of Grey’ recently arrived at the MET Ball in a navy Jason Wu. The dress was a good look on Dakota because of the sequinned top and flowing bottom and the long gloves bring out the Anastasia Steele in Dakota!

British Rose, Felicity Jones, wore an Oliver Theyskens dress with a matching black clutch. It’s a great look against Felicity’s pale skin and dark hair and barely-there makeup lets full attention on her girly gothic dress.

Amber Heard arrived on the MET Ball red carpet with her gorgeous fiancée Johnny Depp wearing a Giambattista Valli dress. This look is great because of Amber’s backcombed hairstyle and fierce red lips and nails – it’s a simple look turned extravagant with her contoured makeup and hairstyle.

After being named the new face of Chanel, new redhead Kristen Stewart wore the French fashion house to the MET Ball and looked great. The embellished and feathery textures of the dress helped to bring out the grunge in Kristen’s personal style, a great look with dark eye makeup and pointed court shoes.

Secondary ‘Gossip Girl’ member, Blake Lively arrived with her gorgeous husband Ryan Reynolds wearing a shimmery pink Gucci Première dress with a plunging neckline and attached cape. Blake looks like a glittering angel meets Jessica Rabbit with her hairstyle and puckering red lips. Fabulous!

Actress Diane Kruger wore a shimmery white BOSS dress to the MET Ball teamed with smokey eye makeup and a parted hairstyle, gathered at the nape of her neck. The white box clutch was a great addition to the almost bluey-white of the dress and simple choice of accessories.

Rosie Huntingdon-Whitely brought the tough girl gladiator look to the MET Ball in a Balmain dress from their A/W ’14 collection. With her straight golden locks parted in the middle, draping down her shoulders, the outfit combined stands out a lot more.

Kristen Wiig was one of my favourite looks from the evening in a Balenciaga by Alexander Wang dress and trouser combination. Not only do I love the outfit because of the fact that it’s all black and by Alexander Wang, but I love that it’s really simple but with a sequinned detailing underneath the dress part. The outfit looks brilliant with her quite laid back hair, tucked behind her ears and gold-themed makeup – a different look for Kristen but a brilliant one.

Last but in no means least is my best dressed from this years MET Ball has got to be Suki Waterhouse in her pale and puffy Burberry dress. A lot of people have criticised this look because of the colour of the dress against her already pale, British Rose skin but I have to shout on the rooftop of my house because I absolutely love this look. Suki Waterhouse has suddenly become one of my favourite stylish ladies and this has bumped her position on my list even higher up. Her choice of red lipstick against the paleness of her outfit and messy up-do screams class and vibrancy and I think this is one of Suki’s best looks yet!
