What were the clubs accomplishments in the previous season?

Our biggest achievements in the previous season were when we came third at the tournament in Aberystwyth, and won the spirit award (basically it’s the sportsmanship award).

What are your aspirations for this season?

After losing a large proportion of the team due to that pesky thing known as graduation, our aspirations this year are to grow the club and replace the members that have moved, as well as trying to do the best we can at regional tournaments.

Most memorable moment from last year?

Often the most memorable moments of the season come when you aren’t playing Ultimate Frisbee. Who doesn’t enjoy a long minibus journey listening to bad music? Who doesn’t enjoy fighting for the only air mattress we’ve brought to sleep on, despite knowing we were going to sleep on a cold sports hall?

Other than the half drunken antics of tournament after parties, my most memorable moment of last year was playing varsity against Leicester Uni. We had a much smaller, and far less experienced team than them, but we pushed them to the very limit and only just lost. It was a far a greater achievement than the year before, and just showed how we had progressed as a team.

Why should students join Ultimate Frisbee?

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport where quite literally anyone can play. We don’t tend to take things as seriously as other sports, and are far more interested in having fun, rather than winning at any cost. I had never heard of Ultimate Frisbee before I arrived at DMU, and now I can’t imagine not playing it. It’s an exciting, non-contact mixed team sport, played widely throughout the UK universities and internationally. It mixes the best features of sports into an elegantly simple yet fascinating and demanding game. So if you want to try something new, something that can keep you fit or just want to meet a great group of people, (myself included) Ultimate Frisbee is the sport to join.
