With freshers’ week out of the way, it may be fair to say that our social calendars are looking a tad sparse. Thanks to the many societies here at DMU that doesn’t have to be the case. Among the hustle and bustle of the freshers’ fair last week you may not have had the chance to find out about all the events you’re invited to this week, so how about you jot these dates down in your diaries!

Fancy with your footwork? See yourself performing alongside DMU Dance in various shows and competitions this year? Taster sessions are being held this week between Monday, September 29th and Thursday, October 2nd.  Venue and times to be confirmed. Keep updated via the society’s facebook group ‘DMU Dance Society 2014/2015’. Membership only £10.

For you budding entrepreneurs or fans of enterprise, Wire DMU want to meet you at their Intro Evening  on Tuesday, September 30th. You’ll find them in the Innovation Centre at 6.30pm.

DMU Comedy are hosting an evening of entertainment with their Freshers Show in Level One of the SU on the 30th September. Doors open at 8.30pm with the show starting at 9pm. Get in for free with your freshers’ wristband. Otherwise, entry is £4 or £3 with a flyer.

Drinks? Get yourself down to Soar Point for a political social with the Politics Society this Tuesday (30th) at 8pm.

Or, if The Font is your thing, more drinks are on offer courtesy of the Mature Student Society with their Grab a Pint night on Tuesday at The Font.

Also on Wednesday, October 1st, get acquainted with DMU Sikh Society at their Meet and Greet event. With membership as low as £3 for the year the society are promising free food at their weekly Wednesday evening meetings. Find them between 6-8pm in Queens Building. Ahlu Bayt Islamic Society are busy this week, hosting a Sister’s Swim on 1st October at DMU Leisure Centre and a trip to a mosque the following day. Add Leicester Absoc on Facebook for more details.

After clocking up their volunteering hours last year, DMU Hindu Society are back at their Sewa antics on 5th October. Society members are welcoming everyone to help in a carehome between 10.30am-4pm. Remember to note down your hours to receive a volunteering certificate from the university at the end of the year. Join DMU Hindu Society NHSF on Facebook.

Finally, here at Demon Media, we are always on the lookout for writers, presenters, producers and so forth.
