Everyone’s favourite relatable romantic comedy character Bridget Jones is still in a state of ambiguity as the script for ‘Bridget Jones baby’ has been halted more than 4 times over the past 3 years. The first hiccup was the issue with directors; the first director attached felt that the movie couldn’t be shot with an American director despite Renee Zellweger herself being American (surprisingly).
The second was an issue with the script itself, simply put, it was a terrible script and Hugh Grant ordered a rewrite and then abruptly dropped out of the project all together. Helen Fielding’s book ‘Mad about the boy’ doesn’t seem to depict events the way the script does and so in this way it wouldn’t be doing the novel justice. Many fans believe that the actors are too old to play the infamous love triangle and the movies held more weight in 2002.
Helen Fielding seemed to have a problem with Renee Zellweger’s portrayal of Bridget as well, Helen enjoyed the films but she wrote Bridget as someone entirely different. The filmmakers have recently called upon British ‘Nanny Mcphee’ star Emma Thompson to spice up the script with her English sensibilities and regain the magic that Bridget Jones started in 2001. Helen Fielding’s rocky relationship with Renee Zellweger has halted production further. Will we ever see Bridget and Mark’s fairytale romance? Only time will tell.
