Spotlight on Sport: Cricket

We are a club that is always looking for new members of all cricketing abilities that are looking to improve their game. We are one of the most successful clubs in the entire university, having two teams in the BUCS league as well as competing in both indoor and outdoor varsities. We have weekly training sessions with a fully qualified Leicestershire county team coach and we use the indoor school at Grace Road as our training facility. Thanks to fantastic partnership between DMU and Leicestershire cricket club, there are plenty of opportunity, if you join the club, to use a top-level facility with a fantastic coach, as well as getting tickets to county games.

We have weekly socials every Wednesday which are always a great laugh and especially messy. These are a great opportunity to relax and build better relationships with other members of the club. These socials generally have a theme and are a great laugh. The cricket team has two varsities throughout the year against UOL, an indoor and outdoor cricket one. We have two teams competing in each. If you work hard and get into the first team for outdoor varsity, that match is played at the county ground at Grace Road, which is an incredible experience playing at a county ground in front of fans. These are just but a few reasons why you should join DMU cricket.

What were the club’s accomplishments last season?

Winning Varsity and having won varsity ten out of eleven times.

What is your most memorable moment from last season?

Winning indoor varsity.

What are your aspirations for this season?

Our aspirations this year are to have our greatest season ever. We obviously want to win all varsity matches for the university and get a clean sweep over UOL. We are also looking to have a successful year in the BUCS league, with the end goal being promoted by winning the league. We know that these aspirations are high, but with a new influx of talent, we know that we can achieve our goals.

How much does it cost to join your club?

The only thing that you need to buy to join our club is an active card which you can buy from the DSU website. This allows you to train with us and makes you available for all cricket games.

Why should students join your club?

Because we are one of the most friendly and successful club’s in the university. We don’t turn anyone away, as long as you have an interest in cricket and wish to improve your game, then this is the club to be a part of. I guarantee you will not regret it and you will have the time of your life.
