Boxing legend Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74, in Phoenix, Arizona a spokesman for his family confirmed.
The former heavy weight champion was admitted to hospital due to respiratory issues that were linked to Parkinson’s that he had been diagnosed with back in 1984.
His funeral will take place on Wednesday in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
Ali led a successful boxing career winning 56 of his 61 fights, being crowned world heavyweight champion three times and winning one light-heavyweight Olympic gold medal.
As well as being a gifted athlete Ali was also heavily involved in the civil rights movement in America and refused to go to Vietnam when drafted resulting in losing his boxing license and being stripped of his heavyweight title.
Tributes have poured in from around the world since the news broke from former boxing legends like George Foreman and world leaders like Barack Obama and former president Bill Clinton.
Ali who was born Born in January 1942 as Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr, is survived by his fourth wife Lonnie and his nine children.
