Celebrate Japanese cinema at Phoenix and see films never before screened in the UK.

Phoenix Cinema in Leicester’s city centre will be hosting 10 Japanese films never previously screened in the UK throughout February and March, as part of the Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2019.

The programme will be returning for its 17th year. This time it will be exploring the theme of ‘happiness’. It will span a range of genres including anime, documentary, comedy, and drama. Each of the 10 films taking a very different approach to the broad subject.

Alongside the season, anime classic Princess Mononoke and the brand-new smash hit Weathering With You will also be screened in February – perfect for fans of anime, old and new.

A live Q&A with director Masaya Ozaki will take place on Wed 5th Feb at 6.30 pm after a screening of his film Her Sketchbook. The interview will provide a unique opportunity to gain insight into a filmmaker’s creative process.

Students can watch any film for only £6 and receive 10% off all food and drink, making the Phoenix Cinema the perfect place for a film night out for a fraction of the multiplex price!
