We know already that each segment in the American entertainment industry have certain award ceremonies that recognise the great things that keep us going through our lives. We’ve got the Academy Awards for film, the Tony Awards for theatre and the Grammy’s for Music. But right now, I’m focusing on the award that recognises the excellence in the industry of television: The Emmy Awards.
The awards evening started back in 1949 where Shirley Dinsdale, ventriloquist, TV and radio personality of the 40’s and 50’s picked up the first ever Emmy Award. Since then, like most other award ceremonies, The Emmys have held unforgettable evenings for our favourite TV shows.
This year The Emmys was hosted by one of my personal favourite actors: Neil Patrick Harris, who couldn’t help but add a musical number or two in true NPH fashion. He hosted the evening which gave more than one award to big winners Breaking Bad, Homeland and Modern Family.
So I’m here, not only to celebrate some of those big wins, but to give you the down low on who wore what at this years Emmy Awards.
First of all, I’ll start with one of the big winners of the evening, Claire Danes, who won Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Homeland. The show also won the award for Writing for a Drama Series too! Claire stunned myself and critics amongst the red carpet with her choice of an Armani Privé dress from the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. Her minimal jewellery was by Neil Lane, who not only helped Claire with her diamonds, but other stars including Lena Dunham and Elizabeth Moss.
Claire was also one of the many leading ladies who chose a pastel-themed colour palette. The cream lace dress worn by Claire shows that pale and blonde girls can pull off cream! Her hair and make up is also something that caught the eye of Fashion sites and blogs everywhere, partly for her burst of colour with red lipstick but also for the hair style that is sweeping the nation: the faux bob. It is easily recreated by splitting your hair into two loose pony tails, rolling them between both forefingers and then when you reach the nape of your neck, pin using strong bobby pins, then finish with hairspray. Voila!
Princess of the pastel dress crew and leading lady in my new favourite TV show ‘New Girl’, Zooey Deschanel, arrived on the red carpet in a gorgeous pale blue J. Mendel dress. She was not only kitted out in a gorgeous straight cut dress, but also wore Chanel earrings and held onto an Edie Parker clutch, which was also another brand that Christina Hendricks sought out for hand food. Although Zooey’s dress was relatively simple in elegance, the detailing of the neckline and waistline ensured that she would stand from the crowd. In addition, her gorgeous brown locks were perfectly curled loosely to fall on her shoulders, adding volume and elegance to her look. Whenever you decide to wear pale blue, channel your inner Zooey and work some light pink lipstick or gloss for a feminine touch.
Away from the pastel theme, Vera Farmiga wore a gorgeously gothic custom made Theysken’s Theory. The voluptuous dress was accessorized with a Lanvin belt and Fred Leighton jewellery. Vera worked this seasons goth/grunge look really well not only with her gothic princess dress with mesh sleeves and a low back, but with her hair perfectly formed into a quiff, very rock star! Yet she still managed to keep that feminine touch in the same way that Zooey Deschanel did with light pink, almost nude, lipstick and glittering diamonds.
Man of the evening Bryan Cranston wouldn’t have ever been missed from my Emmy highlights for two reasons: Breaking Bad won two awards including best Drama Series and that Burberry suit! Burberry this season are doing really well with helping our favourite stars to dress for the occasion and the tuxedo, worn by Bryan, is definitely supports one of those reasons. I think men everywhere, (and women too!) should be in awe of Bryan’s suit because it shows real classiness as well as the manliness that all males require when finding an outfit for any occasion. Time to start thinking like Bryan, boys!
