DMU Korfball warming up before the start of their match.

DMU came up against fellow newcomers to the league in Nottingham University 4 on Thursday 6th. DMU lined up Justyna Mancewicz, Aden Levitt, James Parsonage and debutant Cassie Brummitt starting in attack, whilst  Ruari O’Connor, Owen Hinkson, Aisling Mullins and Myrna Johnson started in defence. Once again using rolling subs, DMU saw Kieran Lacy, Joe Douglass, Jake Pietrzyk and Captain Shaffiq Bobzi enter a closely fought contest.

The game stayed consistently close with every lead gaining a quick reply goals from James and Aisling saw DMU take an early 2-1 lead after Notts went ahead. DMU managed to stay out in front for most of the first half thanks to goals from Ruari and a brace from Justyna before Notts managed to even up the scores and then take the lead going into the break 8-5 up.

After half time changes DMU pulled the deficit back to 1 with goals from Shaffiq and Aisling. The game remained close with Notts pulling ahead only for DMU to reply to keep it close. However, following some strong Nottingham play and some unfortunate DMU attacks the game finished 12-9 to Nottingham University 4.

Despite the loss there were many positives as well as room for improvement for the hotly anticipated return fixture and DMU’s next match and first away fixture to Nottingham City 3 on Sunday 16th November.
