It is during winter that one feels the serene outer atmosphere, and somehow, it is all so melancholic too. Days become shorter, the cold begins to bite more, and often one feels that the night descends way too early. This is the season when many of us bear a strange emptiness; the silence in the air gets deeper into our psyche, and, at times, it makes us feel alone. Still, if we look closer, winter has its own windows allowing beauty and warmth to shine through.
These windows allow us to see what is often overlooked: the peacefulness of a snowy night, the comfort of a cozy living room, or the simple pleasure of holding a nice, warm mug. The closer December gets, the more colour and warmth is brought to these windows by Christmas lights and the festive spirit.
End-of-year celebrations light up the streets and fill our days with gatherings, hugs, and a warmth that no blanket or hot drink could produce. The time spent with people who become a safe place, even though we don’t get to see them throughout the year, brings new ways of connecting with them. The laughter, the never-ending conversations, and the moments of shared joy remind us we are not alone.
Here, winter shows its other side. A side where connection, nostalgia, and love come together and help us to turn sadness into hope. This is when we notice that even the coldest season can be beautiful, provided one allows oneself to peep through the windows of winter and feel its silent warmth.
