Organisers have confirmed that The Rolling Stones will be one of three headliners for the 2013 Glastonbury festival, alongside Mumford and Sons and the Arctic Monkeys.
Mick Jagger tweeted: “Can’t wait to play Glastonbury. I have my wellies and my yurt!”
Held over three days in June (this year June 28, 29, 30), the 42-year-old festival has seen the likes of David Bowie, Oasis, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Muse, Shirley Bassey, Jay-Z, Dizzee Rascal and Lady Gaga grace its stages.
The annual music festival sold out all 135,000 tickets in just 1 hour 40 minutes last October, a new record for the event which attracts students, gap-year thrill seekers and music lovers alike. Previous years saw tickets sell out in 4 hours (2011) and 24 hours (2010).
Upset fans took to Twitter to vent their anger as many failed to secure tickets, claiming that phone and internet registrations failed to work correctly. Cancelled tickets will go on re-sale on April 21, however you will need to register before the date for a chance to get your hands on them.
- EXCITED: Stones’ frontman Mick Jagger tweets about his festival attire.
The festival was not held in 2012 due to the Olympics, and many hope that the weather will reflect that seen last year. The abnormally cold start to spring has many worrying the bad weather will once again plague the festival season.
In 2012, organisers had to cancel the Creamfields Festival due to heavy flooding, organisers had to work with local police to help bring everyone on site to the safety of drier land.
Despite this, the crowd will no doubt turn out in force as 150,000 visitors, staff and vendors are expected to descend on Worthy Farm, the rural setting in Somerset that has been home to the festival since its birth.
Other acts to take to the stage this year include Rita Ora, Jake Bugg, Professor Green, Ben Howard and many, many more. For the full line up and all the information, visit www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk
