In the UK, we have the top 40. The number one of every week is almost known as music royalty for their ability to outshine other music artists and bands; with the song that they think will get out inner music geniuses going crazy. However, over the pond they have The Billboard charts. Similar to the top 40, the United States categorise the songs that they think rule and categorise them in genre.
Every year, Billboard host a night to celebrate some of the best music acts in the music business. From 1989, when the awards first began, to 2006 where the Awards took a small break, the categories have pretty much stayed the same with the exception of a few being renamed.
With Taylor Swift bagging an astonishing SIX Billboard Music Awards including Billboard Artist of the Year and Top Country album and song, she was unable to take hold of the Milestone Award, which her fans (aptly named “swifties”) thought would be a non-brainer. Instead, the award went to Justin Bieber, which had the girls going mad. Nicki Minaj, Madonna and the man himself came close behind to Taylor’s six, with three awards.
As always, the importance of the fashion highlights for me are on par with the awards themselves because it gives us the opportunity to pick out for ourselves who really was the best dressed of the evening.
’22’ singer and winner of the evening, Taylor Swift, wore a vibrant blue Zuhar Murad Pre-Fall 2013 dress that showed off her famous pins, which she teamed with light pink lipstick and a sleek ponytail.
Miley Cyrus who presented the Milestone Award wore a fabulous embellished jumpsuit by Balmain and kept up her punk vibe from the Met Ball with high hair, darkly-lined eyes and luscious red lips.
Fellow Disney starlet Selena Gomez wore a perfectly balanced revealing white Altelier Versace gown with neon piping. The Wizards of Waverly Place actress wore Jimmy Choo heels and kept her hair and beauty to a minimum; similar to that of Taylor Swift’s with heavily lined eyes and sugar pink lips.
Star of hit American TV show ‘Nashville’ Hayden Panettiere wore a dark Halston Heritage gown with a layered front and frilled collar. Her gold clutch matched perfectly with the gown and with her golden locks and neutral make up.
