It’s like summer has been and gone too fast. It has gone quicker than my impressive tan and long summer evening. Now it’s waking up early for lectures and doing work that’s piled up higher than you. The academic year is here and it seems like it was only yesterday that we were flying out on holidays and celebrating the beautiful sun.
Even though we might not be enjoying this foreseeable rain, it’s also my favourite time of the fashion calendar: autumn. I’m opening my arms to welcome fluffy jumpers, baggy cardigans and comfy slippers, as well as some of the fashion trends of this season. Tartan, leather, punk, grunge and black: five words I live by during the harsh weathers of autumn and winter. Oh yes!
The first of the usual three of my Spotted list comes from an extremely unlikely fashion icon whilst the second and third are the same person. I feel like a bit of a cop out, but you’ll understand why I’ve chosen these two people because it’s all about trends and being cool this week. Oh so cool!
Spotted: Hottie Orlando Bloom’s wife and son Miranda Kerr and Flynn
We all know who Orlando Bloom is, film nerds as well as fashionista’s. He played the hunky one in Pirates of the Caribbean as well as the beautiful one in Lord of the Rings and many more films. However, the fashionista’s know his even more beautiful wife Miranda Kerr: the model as well as Victoria Secret Angel. Are these who I’m talking about this week? Hell to the no, I’m talking about their cute-as-fluffy-bunnies son Flynn, who has captured the hearts of… well… Everybody. Here we see Flynn with yummy mummy Miranda, wearing a cool leather-look cap, a grey tee, blue trainers and some extremely awesome tartan trousers. Lads, I know it’s a hit and miss kind of style, but if you are really wanting to knock this season’s main trend on the head I’ve got two words for you: tartan trousers.
Topman have delivered and have a pair in stock similar to Baby Bloom (pun kinda intended), for quite a steep £75. But once you minus the fact that you’re going to like punk-style-cool and you can deduct the ever-handy student discount, you’re on the way to looking like you’ve just stepped out of a Sex Pistols concert in the 90’s. Punk is not dead, people!
Spotted twice: The most recent actress to play Juliet Capulet in Romeo and Juliet; Hailee Steinfeld.
This next person who is number 2 AND 3 of this week’s Spotted is the 2013 version of Juliet Capulet, the cute Hailee Steinfeld. Hailee has been all over the fashionisa’s ‘To Watch’ list after she was the new face of Miu Miu, and was FROWing it up at most of the shows during Fashion Month.
The first outfit is probably one of my favourite outfits, like, ever! A white shirt topped with a black ‘lips’ sweater, a diamond print skater skirt and gorgeous knee-high boots. Hailee’s ensemble is very much ‘Clueless’ meets Grunge because of her skirt, the boots and that sweater, which is the main focus this week. Lips seem to be one of the biggest prints of this season, thanks to Kenzo. But thankfully, you don’t have to do any major investing when your local highstreet has it all. I’ve found a similar style jumper, just slightly fluffier and more printed version of Hailee’s jumper from my new fave shop: Forever 21. This sweater doesn’t even hit the £20 mark so you can completely justify it for you (that’s what I tell myself all the time, don’t worry!) so you won’t break the bank. It’s also quite punky and would work well with leather-look leggings, skinny jeans or your favourite leather skater skirt. All I need now is some killer knee-high boots.
Hailee killed it again in a leather dress, cute strappy, heeled sandals with a check shirt tied casually around her waist to top the outfit off nicely. Cara Delevigne, Queen of style, was also spotted on the DKNY campaign with a check shirt tied around her waist. This just goes to show that it is definitely a thing and awesome to portray with your own outfits this season. Topshop have always been known for their check shirts, as well as ASOS, H&M and Primark to name a few others.
The one I’ve found is just under £30 and is the similar colour scheme as Hailee’s. The red, green-grey and cream of the shirt makes sure that you won’t clash with anything else that you team it with, but to be on the safe side, stick to a black dress like Hailee’s or even something in grey or navy. Soon enough, you’ll be rocking checks like Hailee (and Cara) and you can consider yourself part of their elite check shirt crew. Yipee!
