I’ll start by saying that I hate changing to a new foundation. As a person with pale and problematic skin, it can be hard to find a foundation that sits nicely on my face. When I heard about Born This Way liquid foundation by Too Faced, I knew that I had to try it.
The foundation comes in eighteen different shades to match a range of skin tones. The shade that I was colour matched with was ‘Snow’ and I have to say that it matches with my skin tone really well. Whereas other foundations can leave me looking washed out, the neutral-to-pink undertones gave my face a natural, healthy glow.
Born This Way offers a medium-to-full coverage, which is great if you are like me and your skin isn’t always your best friend. You can layer up the foundation if you’re having a bad skin day or apply less if you only want a medium coverage. Overall, the coverage is okay but not brilliant.
From afar, imperfections aren’t noticeable but up close you might find this foundation lacking a little. But honestly, this is typical for most foundations so I can’t complain too much!
At £29 for 30ml, the price is standard for a high-end foundation. As someone who doesn’t have perfect skin, I think that it is worth spending the extra money rather than buying a drugstore foundation. However, with the amount of money that you’re spending, I would advise going and getting a colour match so that you aren’t left disappointed.
For me personally, one of the biggest struggles I have is finding a foundation that looks good all day and not just for the first hour. After eight hours of wearing it, it still looked all right. The foundation on my chin and around my nose had started to wear away a little but it wasn’t incredibly noticeable.
I did find that it had oxidised a little bit but again, it wasn’t really that visible to other people. With a little bit of touching up throughout the day, I have no doubt that my makeup could look good all day long.
My usual foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear and I think that Too Faced Born This Way definitely holds its own against it. Double Wear can end up feeling thick and oily, making me eager to remove my makeup by the end of the day. Whereas, Born This Way provides a full coverage while still feeling light on my skin. Admittedly, Estee Lauder does offer a wider variety of colours but I think that Born This Way suits my skin tone better while Double Wear can sometimes make me look washed out.
Finding the perfect foundation is never easy and it’s all down to preference. The Too Faced Born This Way foundation is great, but you should definitely go in store to try it out before buying it. The advisors can help you find your perfect shade and you can see how it looks on your face before committing to a new foundation.
