Leicester City fell to their first home defeat of the season after losing 2-0 to East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the King Power stadium.

The Foxes enjoyed the larger share of possession in the opening stages but it was Forest who took the lead when Simon Cox was on hand to capitalise from a mix-up in the Leicester defence in the 31st minute.

The visitors then doubled their lead when Andy Reid’s driven corner caused havoc in the Leicester area before the ball fell nicely to Jamie Mackie, who slotted the ball past Schmeichel.

The hosts made three quick changes after half-time as they went in search of a route back into the game, but their opposition defended stubbornly, leaving the 30,000 strong home crowd frustrated.

Leicester were gifted a golden opportunity to peg a goal back via the penalty spot when Danny Drinkwater was tripped just inside the area by David Vaughan. However, David Nugent’s magnificent penalty record was soon in tatters after his effort clipped the bar before rising into the stands.

Nigel Pearson’s side continued to push forward but the Forest defence stood strong and prevented any way back for the Foxes.

Leicester remain in second place despite this defeat, missing out on the opportunity to overtake leaders Burnley, while Nottingham Forest climb up to fifth.
