Leicester City sit top of the SkyBet Championship this evening as Jamie Vardy’s double secured them all three points in a 3-0 victory over Millwall.
Two goals in the space of two minutes for the former Fleetwood Town striker, put the home side out of sight and succumbed Millwall to their 5th straight away defeat.
Lloyd Dyer opened the scoring for the Foxes on 12 minutes and could of easily had more if it wasn’t for Millwall goalkeeper David Forde.
With the score remaining 1-0 at the break Millwall were very much still in the game but Vardy’s brace fired Leicester to the top of the table with Huddersfield defeating Burnley and Doncaster beating Queens Park Rangers.
Dyer’s opener finished off a fine Foxes move for his sixth goal of the season.
Marcin Wasilewski picked out the forward run of Danny Drinkwater, who’s lofted cross found the arriving Dyer at the back post, firing home a volley past Forde.
The home side had enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening stages and continued to do so following the opener, but failed to add to their lead.
Millwall threatened to equalise as half-time approached but a fine save from Kasper Schmeichel following a goal mouth scramble kept Leicester ahead.
The Foxes could have doubled their lead late on in the first half, through Anthony Knockaert and Wes Morgan chances, but David Forde ensured Leicester would have to settle for a 1-0 half-time lead.
As Millwall searched for an equaliser early on in the second half the Foxes capitalised on the break. Schmeichel’s distribution found Vardy who raced clear before firing home with a low drive passed Forde.
Minutes later a mistake in the Millwall defence allowed Vardy to coolly round Forde to slot the ball home for his sixth of the season to all but claim victory and top spot in the SkyBet Championship, leading 3-0 after 60 minutes.
Millwall tried to battle their way back into the game but lacked the cutting edge to carve out an opening as Leicester held out for another impressive home victory.
