Its 10:15 on a Wednesday night and the Birt awards has just ended for another year. The annual award ceremony which predominantly celebrates the best of British music, acts and artists was as glamorous and fiery as ever.
Amongst the winners at the Brits 2014 were Bastille who won best British break through act, Artic Monkeys winning two awards for best album and British group and Ellie Goulding winning best female soloist, amongst other winners.
But who wins the award for the best dressed? This time there is not going to be just one best dressed male and female at an awards ceremony, instead we are going to combine both the best dressed men and women of the night.
After sporting a colour blocked Vivienne Westwood gown at the BAFTAs on Sunday night, Lilly Allen toned it down for the red carpet of the Brits wearing a sleek William Vintage black sequined gown. Allen’s sparkly number was brightened up with a mustard yellow channel purse and her new part died yellow hair. To some her new hair colour may be to risqué, however it suited her and the dress impeccably well. But the luscious sequined gown was not all Lilly wore for the event. Presenting the award for best British group, Lilly Allen wore an amazing pre AW14 Henry Holland dress which was only featured on the runway last Saturday. The dress is perhaps one of my favourite designs from HOH, and with her new hairdo Lilly rocked the bold colour and sequins.
Looking Shamazing in a Tux and leather ensemble was Nichole Sherzinger. (I don’t think I can actually find the words describe the top half of Nichole’s outfit, but I will give it a try). In the past Sherzinger has been known to flash a bit of skin but this leather and gold top piece with a halter neck, neck-line is perhaps the sexiest and revealing to date. Tastefully designed the number when matched with her cigarette trousers, ¾ length tux and gold heels it is a tantalising and sexy ensemble.
Next up is Rita Ora who graced the red carpet in a gorgeous bright yellow floor length gown with emerald green studded straps. The dress yet simple was elegant, flowing perfectly off Rita’s figure. There are few women who can actually pull off wearing a block yellow dress and not look like a lemon, and it is safe to say that Rita is one of them. The gown was the perfect choice for Rita, with the slight plunging neck line and the emerald bejewelling on the straps, adding a slight twist to the elegant gown.
It seems that Vivienne Westwood is becoming a favourite with celebrities at the moment for red carpet looks. Ellie Goulding looked elegant and stylish in a nude Westwood gown with a puffed out skirt. Normally Ellie opts for straight tight fitting dresses, but it is good to see her trying out something new and looking amazing at the same time.
Making a guest performance on the Brits last night was none other than Queen B herself who performed her latest single XO. Beyoncé who wore a beautiful sequined, turquoise gown even at times sparkled during her performance. Some of the greatest performances are when there is just an artist on stage with no back up dancers or vocalists just singing out their heart and soul. And Beyoncé’s performance was no exception. Beyoncé’s signature long curly hair also made their comebacks last night making for an overall elegant and dazzling performance.
Moving on to the guys comes host of the Brit Awards James Corden. After five years of presenting the Brit Awards, last night was his last time as host for the event. Corden looked dapper in a paisley floral black tux, proving not only the slimmer gentleman can look suave in a suit. Corden’s Tux was matched with a floral silk bow tie and the classic crisp white shirt. It is safe to say that Corden has bowed out stylishly from his time as the host of the Brit awards.
Not looking so suave and dapper is my next best dressed, Nick Grimshaw. Personally for me Grimmy’s outfit was a bit too casual to wear to the event, however the rock and roll aspect to his ensemble and his patent Chelsea boots earned him a spot on my best dressed.
Next up is winners of the Best British Breakthrough act is band Bastille. All members suited up for the occasion, with lead singer Dan and fellow band mate Kyle wearing a two piece suit and a buttoned up white shirt. The other two members Chris and Willy went all out in three piece suits and cobalt blue ties.
Lastly but not least is Pharrell Williams. Ditching his cowboy hat which he donned for the Grammy’s, he was suited in a stylish metallic suit. Adding a twist to his look which he has worn for various red carpet appearances is the three quarter length trouser. Where it looks good on Pharell we are unsure that it is going to catch on, especially for a red carpet look.
So there you have our best dressed at last night’s Brit Awards. Who do you think was best dressed?
