American metal legends Metallica have this evening (May 8) been confirmed as the final headliners for this year’s Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts.
Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo will make their debut appearance at the festival as they top Saturday’s bill, closing the iconic Pyramid Stage with what promises to be a hard-hitting set that encapsulates the best of their raucous back catalogue.
They join Arcade Fire and Kasabian at the top of the Worthy Farm bill, after both were previously noted as headliners in the last two announcements.
Today’s update also disclosed the full and complete line-up poster for this year’s event, with the likes of HAIM, St Vincent, and Disclosure all confirmed as performers across the festival’s array of stages.
Speaking on Metallica’s headline slot, festival organiser Michael Eavis said: “We’ve never limited ourselves to one particular genre and we’ve had pretty much everything over the years.
“We try very hard to give our crowd the biggest and best acts that are out there at any given time, so when we heard that one of the most popular bands in the world was desperate to play here, we phoned them back!”
Glastonbury takes place from the 27-29 June, 2014; The full-line up poster is shown below:
