Taster session: 1st October and 4th October are our free taster sessions where everyone will get the chance to try our great sport. Voted the healthiest sport on the planet, squash is a fast paced and intricate game that can be enjoyed by all abilities. If you’re an experienced player looking to meet new friends or a beginner just trying to get fit, our club is the best way to do that!
Training: Wednesdays 1-4 and Saturdays 2-5, we have two three hour sessions a week, which may seem long but once you get on court it will fly by! Your first two sessions will also be free! (Start that student saving mentality!)
Match and League info: We are in the BUCS Midlands 3B league and the Leicestershire 5th division league. Taking part in both the University and county leagues means there is match experience available for a large amount of players!
Social: Start at 7.30 every Wednesday. Socials are the best part about the club, you get to go out and meet new friends whilst having a “few” drinks. Socials also take on a theme, whether it is fancy dress or joint socials with other societies, but without a doubt these are the best nights out of the week! We are sponsored by Soar Point and Marz Bar who ensure we have the space and cheap drinks we need!
Chairperson: Matthew Ysart, I am currently going into to my fourth year studying Advertising and Marketing Communications, completing an industrial placement last year. I have been at the club for my entire university life and joining was the best decision I have ever made.
What were the clubs accomplishments in the previous season?
Last season we participated in the Leicestershire leagues for the first time giving more members a chance to play competitive squash. We also managed to retain our position in a very tough BUCS league.
What are your aspirations for this season?
This season is the first time we will have a full time professional coach so my ambitions are very high. I want to win our first 1st team varsity and get promoted in both the BUCS and Leicestershire leagues, all of which I believe is very doable.
Most memorable moment from last year?
After our sports tour in Salou a certain member of the club delayed the whole plane after spewing in the aisle and getting wheel chaired out of the airport by security staff in his “I love tour! T-shirt, I was in tears!
This year’s varsity was played at the newly refurbished Leicester Squash Club, which new large viewing area and glass back courts lead to the biggest squash varsity attendance ever, the feeling of walking onto the court in front of such a large crowd was outstanding!
