DMU Women’s lacrosse have placed 2nd in their first tournament.

After Josie Meakin won the draw which allowed DMU to have a great start. She managed to make a run at the goal,gliding by the defenders to score the first goal. Quickly followed by Kirsten O’Neill scoring the second. In goal was Emily Bibbysaving shot after shot, however Leicester’s centre was fast paced which allowed them to equal the score. In the last few minutes, Florence Cambier secured the first win 5-4 against our biggest rivals. The next game against Staffordshire was much harder, as their team had great stick control. The lacrosse freshers were keen to prove themselves and delivered some fantastic stick checks. The final score was 5-1 to Staffs with Meakin scoring our only goal. However the team made it into the top 4 Gold Division.
The rain began to pour but this didn’t stop DMU against Keele. The team played far better than they’ve ever played before with defense on top of their game. Adarshini Burran went for every check and got possession of the ball every time. Hayley Landau had 2 amazing drives to give us a 2 point lead. Meakin also went on to score 2 more goals so effortlessly ending the match on 4-1 putting DMU into the final against Loughborough.

With this being the hardest game that DMU had to play, with Loughborough gaining possessions from more ground balls. DMU’s defense team were mirroring their every move, however Loughborough managed to glide by to make the final score 4-0. This meant that the Women’s team came second, which is an amazing result for their first ever tournament.
