DMU Women’s Rugby held on to win a friendly against Coventry winning 34-20, before their first BUCS game of the year.

Having faced the team earlier in the season and suffering a 31-5 defeat, the girls knew they had a challenge ahead of them to come away with the win. Team captain, Carol Fitzpatrick said: “I am extremely proud of the girls, all the training and theory we have worked on is coming together and with every game we are improving so much.”

DMU lead early on with a try from their captain followed by a conversion from fly half, Holly Wheeldon. However, Coventry were quick to react with a try to keep DMU on their toes. DMU followed up with a further four tries, resulting in a hat-trick for their captain, and a conversion. Whilst Coventry scored three more tries to keep the game alive.

A last minute try secured the game for DMU and ensured that they came away with their first win of the season.
