Having played Wolverhampton 2nds last year, the existing DMU 2nds knew that they would be facing a strong, well organised team. DMU were able to maintain good territory in the first 20 minutes but found themselves 14 points down due to two errors that led to breakaway tries.
However, the pressure applied in the first half continued with DMU scoring a penalty and two unconverted tries: one through open backs play and the other from a training ground lineout set play. The score at half time was 14-13 to Wolverhampton.
Wolves had two men sin binned for 10 minutes in the first half and didn’t concede in that time. Once they had all their players return after the break they were visibly buoyed. They scored two converted tries in quick succession and DMU could only reply with one unconverted try, leaving the score at 28-18 to Wolves. A further two tries were scores at the end where fitness and a lack of concentration cost DMU. DMU 2nds will now be looking forward to playing Loughborough 4th in the cup on November 11th.
Final Score: DMU 2nds 18 – 38 Wolverhampton 1sts
