Talented contour fashion students at DMU wowed the panel of industry experts in their ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ catwalk show on Friday. Second-year students showcased their work to a group of judges, which included professionals from popular brands, Tutti Rouge and Lepel Intimates.

The catwalk featured 58 designs all created by the students within a six-week period. The judges awarded first, second and third prizes to the designs they felt ‘pushed the boundaries’

First prizewinner Ffion Piper said: “I am so blown away with winning. It was a lot of hard work but I am so glad it all paid off.” Ffion’s design featured a corset and was based on the idea of the human anatomy.

Students were encouraged to ‘unleash their spirited wilder imagination and experiment with colour, fabric, shape, silhouette, print and embellishment.” The panel stated how impressed they were with everyone’s designs but they felt Ffion’s work ‘really ran with the brief.” They also added four extra commendations to students who they felt had done the best technical and commercial work.

Subject leader Gillian Proctor said: “I am absolutely delighted with the standard of creativity and innovation. The talent shown has been inspirational. I want express my gratitude to the panel of judges.”She added how she hopes for exciting things to come in 2017.
