We have received reports that the De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) Deputy President Education Augustus Mbanasor has been asked to step down from his position.
The news was first released in a Facebook post made by Augustus stating:
“Just so everyone knows right now, I have officially been suspended from my duties as Deputy President Education with immediate effect until further notice.
I won’t talk much here, but if you have any union related issues, please use the appropriate union channels to get your issues resolved.
The post has since been deleted.
The Students’ Union have since released this statement in response:
“De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) has currently suspended Augustus Mbanasor from his post as Deputy President Education. This is in response to an on-going investigation and is in accordance with the students’ union’s policies and procedures. The union takes situations of this nature very seriously and will continue to uphold and follow its processes. The elected officers will take joint responsibility to cover the role of Deputy President Education until the investigation is concluded.”
This comes shortly after the Students Union elections where Augustus chose not to stand for re-election for a sabbatical officer role, and he will soon be replaced by Mollie Footitt.
