It was that time of the week again; Coffee House Sessions and Thursday October 23 introduced James McLaren to the Student Union’s Level  1. Half past one every Thursday brings a new and exciting artist to the Students Union and this time was no exception.

James McLaren has recently recorded his debut EP with the award winning producer and Communion partner Ian Grimble. Ian has been responsible for numerous big artists from The 1975 to Travis. James’s music tells a real story, while hinting classic English songwriter vocals mixed with more contemporary styles such as Bon Iver and Ben Howard. The new record contains choral backing harmonies, a swing rhythm section and lyrics which tell real tales of the singer’s life.
As always, Level 1 was filled with a vast variety of viewers, eager to see what original and innovative music was to come. The new venue provides a different atmosphere which is welcomed; it also provides a stage to showcase the acts. The relaxed and laid back vibe lends itself perfectly to the sound of the artists.
James’s EP consists of three new tracks, all self-written and all recorded in the Crypt Studios that lends a fresh sound to the music.
Demon FM’s very own Chris and Sam were on the sofa to chat with James about all things EP, as well as some fun and games. James chose a pint for his beverage of choice on this Thursday afternoon, which didn’t go unnoticed by our presenters. This is Coffee House Sessions after all.
Demon TV were there to capture all of the goings on, which can be found on their YouTube channel, and as usual highlights were played out on Demon FM’s Tuesday Catalyst show.
