Who knew that Comic Con International would be such a magnet for fashionista’s? This year’s convention held host to some of the greatest movie and TV stars (and mad fans too!) who got together to enjoy one of the best forms of entertainment.
My first of the many power women I’ve included in my spotted section is Elizabeth Olsen. Mary-Kate and Ashley’s little sister rocked this Balenciaga monochrome number perfectly for the event. The reason I love this is because not only is it very “smart-casual” but it’s perfect for the summer weather. It’s a great evening outfit if you’re out on the town, or even for a weekend away – it’ll tickle whatever fancy you have!
Topshop’s short collection is one to fall in love over. They have shorts that range over different materials, lengths, fits and colours. Take it from Elizabeth that shorts are certainly fresh this summer, but let yourself have free reign over your own style and the shorts you’re comfortable in. I chose a jersey pair that are £25 from Topshop. The top I’ve chosen, which vaguely resembles the actresses Balenciaga wrap-over top, is one from Zara. Their collection of anything white is off the chart and heavily in demand, as this seasons key colour is white. The £19.99 vest is perfect with the jersey shorts, tucked into a maxi skirt or loose over your favourite pair of skinnies. It’s so versatile that you can work it any which way you please.
Jennifer Lawrence is not only my idol because of her excellent acting, her out of this world sense of humour and her hair which is to die for – but also for her wardrobe choices. Jennifer attended Comic Con wearing a cropped monochrome patterned tee and a wrap-over white skirt. The monochrome trend, as you can tell, is something that I am digging big time.
Zara have a wonderful creation called the Mini Skort. Translated it’s a skirt + shorts = skort. The £25.99 skort is even a winner with most fashionistas and bloggers who have worked it with band t-shirts and button downs. ASOS are royalty when it comes to crop tops, and although places like Topshop and River Island also have a great selection of cropped vests and tees, ASOS really hit the nail on the head with the different variety in styles and lengths. Your basic crop top should sit an inch or two above your belly button, but a lot of them nowadays raise a lot higher up. Similar to Jennifer’s, the cropped t-shirt that I found from ASOS has a 90’s style print with the added bonus of it currently being in the sale. The top which was £14 and is now £7 will work perfectly with the Zara Mini Skort and an ankle boot or your pristine white Converse.
Avengers Assemble star Scarlett Johansson attended the event in a gorgeous floral dress from Versace’s pre-Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Not only is Scarlett ahead of the fashion times, but she’s really got summer in her pocket with the brightness of the colours; in comparison to the previous lovely monochrome ladies.
Zara have always had a great collection of dresses aimed at the kind of event that Scarlett wore her Versace number to. This floral tube, with slightly different sleeves, is similar to Scarlett’s due to its harsh-but-beautiful floral all over print as well as the length and the neckline. For £39.99, it’s a bit pricey for a student budget, but perfect for those summer occasions!
As coordination is concerned, Lily Collins has got it down to a tee. Her Comic Con outfit, which is from Paper London, was a big hit with the fashion critics. Not only did it show off her perfect figure (and those legs) but it proved once and for all that top and shorts or skirts sets are the way forward. Topshop are the best place to go for pre-packed co-ords in any shape or colour. If you’re not too keen on shorts then you’ll be able to find a skirt or even trousers to match with the same print top or blazer.
Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev took a slightly different approach to her Comic Con attire. Her Sachin plus Babi top and shorts work so well together; even though the prints are totally different.
A lot of designers for the past few seasons have rocked clashing prints and Nina took that and worked it well. I found a great basic striped top, similar to Nina’s, from H&M which is a bargain at £7.99. BooHoo.com have a great selection of floral shorts to show off your fabulous pins and the tropical print pair I found are yet another steal at £10!
