So we’ve made it through two thirds of 2013, hooray! We can’t tell you where the time has gone, but we can tell you August has been an exciting month for the music industry! From hosting some of this biggest names in festivals, a whole host of baby pictures and those controversial MTV Video Music Awards, let’s reminisce in the highlights that the month of August gave to us.

Yes you read that correctly! The 55-year-old pop star has been named Forbes Magazine’s Highest Paid Celebrity in 2012-2013, earning an estimated £80m through her MDNA tour and clothing line. Other top 10 celebs included the likes of movie director Stephen Spielberg (£64m), music mogul Simon Cowell (£61m) and songstress Lady Gaga (£52m).

9. Zayn and Perrie engaged!

I’m afraid your luck is out on catching the heart of One Direction heartthrob Zayn Malik. Earlier in the month he proposed to girlfriend Perrie Edwards – of Little Mix fame – and confirmed that the two are set to wed. Perrie was also spotted sporting a giant rock on her finger at the premiere for the recently released 1D film This Is Us – in which her new fiancé stars – sparking the initial blogosphere rumours of a 1D engagement. Good luck to both of them!

8. 1D has a movie?

You’re as shocked as we were! Charting their rise to fame, This Is Us is an intimate film that takes Directioners behind the scenes of being the world’s most popular boy band. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a fresh review of 63/100, however the IMDB user rating is just 2/10. We’ll leave you to make your own minds up on this surprising box office release.

COMEBACK: Avenged Sevenfold have released their first album since the death of their drummer, entitled ‘Hail to the King’.

7. Avenged Sevenfold release a new album.

Normally a new album isn’t special news. However this is the first album released by Avenged Sevenfold after the tragic passing of their drummer Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan in 2009. Hail To The King received a commendable average of 4/5 amongst music press reviewers, and has been long awaited by fans of the heavy metal band.

6. Kanye West unveils the first picture of his baby girl.

The highly anticipated picture of Kanye’s baby with Kim Kardashian, North West, was finally revealed in August, despite the new Daddy previously saying that he did not want his daughter to be in the spotlight. He is said to have commented: “This is not America’s baby”, before keeping North all to himself. However he clearly had a change of heart over the last month, showing the picture on North’s Grandmother’s chat show, The Kris Jenner Show. The American rapper joked: “I pray she looks like her mother when she’s older!”

5. In other baby news… We have a Baby Bublé!

Singer Michael Bublé became a father this month after his wife, Argentine actress Luisana Lopilato gave birth to their first son, whom they have name Noah. The world found out about his fatherhood after the singer tweeted a picture of his post-labour wife cradling their first-born. Along with baby North and royal baby Prince George, August has been a rather good month for the pitter-patter of tiny feet!

Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus VMAs

4. Cyrus too risqué for VMAs?

It’s been talked about so much that we have little else to add, but it’s no surprise that people are complaining of the nude-latex bikini dancing antics of ex-Disney youngster come pop diva Miley Cyrus. Her VMA performance was interesting to say the least. As for Robin Thicke (36) who performed the still-creepy summer hit ‘Blurred Lines’, and new single ‘Give It 2 U’ with Cyrus, I have nothing more to say. If you haven’t seen the performance, you can watch it here on Miley Cyrus’ MTV UK Artist Page.

As much as the internet continue their onslaught of the 20-year-old, fellow ex-Disney star Justin Timberlake, Adam Lambert and father Billy Ray Cyrus have all defended the singer’s cringe-inducing performance.

3. Mother Monster RETURNS!

Little Monsters rejoice! Lady Gaga has returned to the spotlight releasing her comeback single ‘Applause’ this month! We were also treated to seven other tasters of her upcoming album ARTPOP, ahead of its release on November 11,during her show on the opening night of the 2013 iTunes Festival on Sunday last. We also ran a story on Gaga’s big return earlier in the month; read it here!

2. Festival Season!

For all you festival-goers out there, August brought varying degrees of happiness and sadness – particularly with the weather! Big names such as the Reading and Leeds (reminisce with us here) Festivals and V Festival kept us entertained despite being rainy washouts, whilst the lesser known Wilderness and South West Four Festivals also took place. However as the Autumn season rolls in with its cooler, wet weather, festival organisers and goers alike are beginning to pack up their tents until next year! Boo!

HARRY’S MUSIC MOMENT OF THE MONTH: JT storms the MTV VMAs 2013 in New York.

Justin Timberlake won big at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with no less than four ‘Moonmen’ attributed to his name. The ‘Sexy-Back’ singer performed a 15-minute, medley-set of his greatest hits, including a selection from his recent album The 20/20 Experience. He even squeezed in a short reunion with his former band ‘N Sync, satisfying escalating media rumours in the build up to the awards!

The newly named “President of Pop” won gongs for: Best Direction (for ‘Suit and Tie’); Best Editing (for ‘Mirrors’); Video of the Year (for ‘Mirrors’); and the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (formerly known as the Lifetime Achievement Award).

We love him, you love him. Everybody loves a bit of JT.
