vKAGV 2014 CMYK CS3_FinalPrepare for a cracking night of good music, free food and great company next Friday, all in the name of charity. And it only costs an item of clothing to get in.

vInspired, an independent British charity, gives the chance for conscientious and creative young people between 18 and 25 to volunteer and change their local community for the better, and ‘Team V Leicester’ (as the local branch is known) are hosting a music event to trigger that change. Whilst also having a whole lot of fun.

Team V’s nationwide first campaign this year is entitled ‘The Sustainable Generation.’ The campaign is aimed at making a disposable generation, a sustainable one, by going green. Watch the campaign video for ‘The Sustainable Generation’ below.

Team V Leicester’s music event for the campaign, titled ‘Don’t Be Trashy’, will be  hosted at The Music Café on Friday 29th November,  and will see musical talent from both De Montfort and the University of Leicester, as well as local residents. The night is not quite free, as the audience have to bring a minimum of one un-wanted or unloved item of clothing as their entrance fee. However, there is no limit on the amount of clothes you can bring that will be donated to charity after the night is over. Team V aims to raise awareness of how much we waste, and point out how far unwanted clothing can go. And of course, there will be a fashion display of all the donated clothing on the night.

Set up in 2004 by David Blunkett and Gordon Brown, Team V is a nine month leadership and volunteering programme across the country, which mixes personal development, skills building and community action.  vInspired works with over 500 voluntary sector organisations and over 150 private sector partners to create innovative youth volunteering opportunities. Team V is a new programme, headed up by vInspired, in partnership with Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), and the Rank Foundation aiming to involve a network of young people leading social action campaigns across England.

A night of quality music, free food and entertainment, all in the name of charity, and all you have to is clear out the old garments you haven’t worn for years. You could do a lot worse on Friday night.

‘Don’t Be Trashy’ will take place at The Music Café, New Park St, Leicester LE3 5NH, on Friday 29th November. The event runs from 6pm-9pm. For more information, email Elizabeth.puddicombe@vinspired.com, or visit:
