Sunday night saw the return of the annual music awards, the AMA’s, where music talents get praise for their great albums, chart-topping songs and general role model status. Taylor Swift and the gorgeous Justin Timberlake were the nights big winners, Taylor took an outstanding four awards including Artists of the year, Favourite Female Artist Pop/Rock, Favourite Female Artist Country and Favourite Album Country. Justin’s three awards included Favourite Male Artist for Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B and Favourite Soul/R&B Album for The 20/20 Experience. One Direction and Rihanna came in joint third, both being honoured with two awards, Rihanna getting hold onto the first ever AMA Idol award for 2013.
So with Taylor Swift in mind, she starts the best dressed list for the American Music Awards in a very glitzy, glamorous and sexy Julien Macdonald dress. I love this dress because considering the detailing of all of the glistening sequins that cover the dress – it’s pretty simple. Taylor matched gold with gold and more gold in her gladiator sandal-like heel, earrings and of course – that to-die-for hair, which was lightly curled and given lots of volume. Taylor should get a fifth award for ‘wow factor outfit’ – and I should be the one to give it to her.
The angelic Emma Roberts attended the AMA’s wearing the most gorgeous silver dress that was strapless, long and cinched loosely at the waist. She contrasted colour with the hot pink clutch and red nails, which I absolutely adore. The dress, like Taylors, is glitzy and simple, but still oozes class, femininity and a little grunge – if you ask me! Her hair was flipped to one side, over one shoulder to reveal a refreshing lack of jewellery except her drop earrings that match the grey-tone of her dress. If they had a high-street version of this dress and I was a little taller, I’d be wearing it right now.
Make way, Miley, there is a new stylish Cyrus in town in the form of the ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer’s sister Brandi. You might recognise Brandi from the occasional cameo in Hannah Montana as well as being the lead guitarist in Miley’s old band – when her music was actually decent. Brandi, who holds a pretty/rocker image wowed me when she appeared on the red carpet in a short embellished Rachel Zoe dress with long sleeves. Like Emma Robert’s hair, Brandi has flipped her blonde/auburn hair to the side and has that cool, laidback curl to it that I can never seem to master. Her dark red lip is a fabulous contrast to her black and white striped shoes (as well as the totally white dress) and lashings of liner are instant double thumbs up from me!
My personal Queen of Pop, Katy Perry, graced the red carpet in a pretty punk gown by Oscar De La Renta. The polka dot-meets-floral print is in the ‘good’ bucket of clashing print combinations and that box clutch? Love! Katy’s signature black hair is curled glamorously, making way for her also lack of accessories like most of the ladies so far and the red lip that matches the carpet beneath her feet is a winner. It’s a shame Katy didn’t win any awards, but she’s winning it for me for sure!
Last but not least is yet another sparkly dress worn by Nickelodeon star cum singer Ariana Grande, who won the AMA for New Artist of the Year. The mini Mariah Carey wore a strapless gown covered in red sequins by Dolce and Gabbana and considering it’s a very big dress, Ariana pulls it off really well against her olive skin tone. Her makeup was kept very minimal, which was a good choice because it allows her dress to do all of the talking. Her hair was gently curled and placed in a half up/half down do, which suits the style of the entire ensemble very well. It’s definitely one of my favourite dress choices of the evening, what about you?
