New Year Spark 4New Years Eve is just around the corner, which means the celebrations will begin to see us into a brand new year! To start it off with a bang, try this nail art idea to finish that party outfit perfectly!

For this tutorial I used:

  • Maybelline Colour Show – Blackout
  • Seventeen Nail Polish – Glisten
  • Miss Sporty Base & Top Coat
  • Masking Tape
  • Scissors

1. Firstly, before applying any nail polish, using scissors, cut out thin strips of masking tape and stick them to the edge of a table so they are easily accessible. Note: I recommend using masking tape or something similar rather than trying a more sticky tape like cellotape because masking tape is easy to remove without causing damage to your design.

2. Next, apply the base coat to protect the nail.

3. Then, add a layer of the Glisten nail varnish, this may need one or two coats to achieve a fully opaque colour.

4. Once the polish has dried, stick the five strips of masking tape on your nail in a star formation, making sure that the centre is at the bottom of the nail.

5.When the tape is applied, brush on Blackout and wait for it to dry for about 10 minutes just to make sure it is dry underneath and won’t pull up with the tape.

6. Now, unpeel the tape to reveal the design.

7. Add a top coat at the end for protection.

To make this design have more sparkle, you could add a small gem at the bottom or vary the bottom colour for each nail.
