This week on fashion friday we focus on the accessory that is set to be big in 2014. All we want as students is a bag that is both practical and stylish. Backpacks provide us with both these functions. Gone are the days where backpacks were for the unfashionable. The new current styles of backpacks are a way of self expression and have creative designs. And best of all? They are unisex.

Backpack brand MiPac has been growing recently and is a favourite with most students as it can fit virtually everyhting you need for your library all nighters and is still stylish. The brand work to combine both fashion and function to privide us with bags that are durable and also individual. We’ve even spotted Demon Online Lifestyle Editor Yusef around campus sporting a navy MiPac. Other brands such as Eastpak, Northface and Hershel have their own versions which are worth taking a look at.

It’s not just the high street that is going crazy for backpacks, high fashion designers are also doing their own versions. For his S/S 2014 showcase, Alexander Wang showcased a new style of bag from his explorer series which was a backpack with one strap. Two straps are so overrated. Lagerfeld’s girls wore their  embellished tie-dye logo bags carelessly slung over their shoulders for the S/S 2014 RTW show. Philip Lim took inspiration from satchels for his backpacks.
