The day for all lovers, and future lovers, has finally arrived. Although love should be celebrated every day, it wouldn’t kill to spare a moment to raise a toast to the lovers out there: cheers; and if this is the beginning, then, congratulations and wish you all the best!
But I raise a toast to the singles; you rock! (Not that couples don’t, but the arrival of 14th of February is a rollercoaster for some). Therefore, I’d like to focus my piece of work on something larger than happy couples; ‘the spirit of love’. It’s something a little different; taken from the words of others; a poem comprised of song lyrics and a few originals thrown in there too. If you pay close enough attention, you may just recognise a few!

I never realised what awaited – the rollercoaster ride.

Losing fear to the unknown,

the rest is history, we are winners of our tide.

Leaving wasn’t an option, never,
ironic it is, as mistakes are bound to make us clever.
When I left, I lost a part of me,
never one soul had the ability to create a make believe.
The beginning was the end of everything,
as I slowly Braced myself for the goodbyes,6
Yet the ending of all is the beginning of love,
Trouble, tears, threat took me by surprise.
With you, it was a graceful journey;
Filled in the end with so many lies and too many bootless cries.
How can the devil be the better part of you?

A recollection of all our memories;
Now it’s all tearing me.

I needed some space to be a balloon,

Her mind is mistaken for we are more.
She does not know of the untold.
Forever; was not I told?
I’m caught up on you,

Who is she?
She can never be me.
Listen to her if you may, please,
if disaster is all that’s left: what more do I need?
No more tears.
I am now a woman,
not a girl.
Conflict shall therefore override.
The best cannot be replaced,
and emotions can neither be traced.
Both are to blame for the need of my space.
I made my bed; made all my mistakes,
I am yet still man enough to admit everything was fake.
But the love shared was never meant to break.

Forgiven am I, for all my mistakes?
