Mens Football

Spotlight on Sport: Men’s Football

We are a club where everyone is welcome, whether you play or not you can still get involved. Matches are played every Wednesday; we have 4 teams that play in the BUCS leagues, with our 5th team hoping to become an established BUCS team too in the near future. If you’re not interested in playing you can still come along to socials every Wednesday evening at Mix’d bar, this is before we head to Marz and Level 1. We also offer our members the chance to go on Tour, as well as a possible DMU Global opportunity (where we went to LA last year!)

What were the club’s accomplishments last season?

We had many successes in 2014/15; most recognisable of all was our charity work. Not only did we team up with DMUWFC to host the famous Goal’s tournament, but we also raised vast amounts of money via assisting a Stem Cell research campaign, as well as having many of our club members raising money by taking part in Movember. In terms of competitive successes we managed to win 2 varsities. We feel our 5th team were very unlucky in their varsity defeat, as they had only just formed this season, which we perceive to be an achievement in itself. We also came very close to 2 league titles, with 4th team and 1st team coming runners-up in their respective leagues (with 1st team only missing out by a single point!).

What is your most memorable moment from last season?

Our 2 varsity wins; our 2nd and 3rd team both won their varsities via penalty shootouts, which happened side by side and at the same time! Our DMU Global trip to USA was also unforgettable!

What are your aspirations for this season?

Since 2 of our teams came runners-up in their league last season we believe that at least 1 of our teams will be crowned champions this year! We also expect a successful cup run, and most importantly, we want to dominate University of Leicester in varsity and make it a clean sweep!

How much does it cost to join your club?

£0, you just have to purchase an active card (which is the same for all clubs) at the price of £40.

Why should students join your club?

Students should join DMUFC because we’re the biggest and the best sport at De Montfort. It’s a great way to make friends for life, since anyone is welcome to come and be a part of our club. We’re a massive group of good lads that are always up for a laugh. If you play, then there’s the opportunity to come and compete in the BUCS leagues, but if you don’t, then there’s still lots on offer to you such as socials and tour! There’s also the opportunity to earn your tie if you regularly attend all of our events, and being awarded a DMUFC tie is an honour to treasure.
