The team was left disheartened from their previous match against Nottingham Trent with a loss, but they didn’t let that stop them as this week they came back more determined than ever and won with an amazing 31 points to Wolverhampton’s 12.
It was evident that the team were stronger than ever as the first quarter kicked off to an amazing start as within the first fifteen minutes the shooters, Sarah Ward and Jodi Wills, managed to get in almost every shot they took; putting the team into the lead instantly.
With the defence remaining strong and the attacks focused as ever, by the time the fourth and final quarter came, it became pretty impossible for Wolverhampton, to catch up to this speedy team, thus allowing 2nd team to walk away with their first win of the season and a first win for DMU’s Netball this season.
Player of the match was awarded to Racheal Gill, the team’s captain, due to her speed and amazing skills. Player’s player was awarded to Ella Boon for her interceptions and keeping up her high energy throughout the whole match as Racheal agreed by saying: “I’m very impressed with Ella yet again who played 4 quarters as centre with no let up until the very end, and her fierce playing style allowed her to get nearly every one of their centre passes!”
Clearly beaming from the day’s result she continued by saying “I would say defence was formidable as the Wolves (Wolverhampton) struggled to even get a look in the goal third. Also, a special mention to Jodi who stepped up to the plate from 3rds and delivered to a high standard for 4 quarters.”
As this was a cup game and not a BUCS league one, DMU Netball’s 2nd team will now advance to the next round of the midlands cup.
Final Score: Wolverhampton 1st 12: 31 DMU 2nds
