The student and community radio station DemonFM has been revealed as the host of the Student Radio Association Conference (SRA Con) 2017 in an awards evening at the O2 in London.
The SRA is a body that encourages and helps develop the talent and skills of student radio stations at academic institutes across the country.
After applying earlier this year DemonFM won the opportunity to host the three-day conference that will take place in April 2017.
The conference is held each year by different student stations and over the three days a variety of breakout sessions, talks and celebrations are held by industry professionals.
Hannah Rowe Station Manager of DemonFM said: “I’m an odd mixture of ecstatic and relieved, we’ve been putting work into this bid since June 2016.
“And now in November to see the product of that work and to have the SRA Executive team place confidence in DemonFM to host a strong SRA Con to rival those that have come before it.”
Talks at the conference in previous years have been hosted by notable names such as Greg James, Nick Grimshaw and Hugh Stevens of BBC Radio 1 fame.
Mike Mayes De Montfort Student Union’s Vice President Media and Communications said: “The SRA conference will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we do as a media cohort and celebrate the hard work of not just us, but student radio around the whole country.”
There have also been influential members from Global; owners of Capital and Radio X, Bauer; owners of Kiss and Absolute, as well as some DemonFM alumni who have hosted talks as a sign of their success after leaving the student station.
Hannah added: “Three days in April are going to be exceptionally busy making sure all our delegates get to their talks, that the evening entertainment is on point, and that the after party doesn’t stop the music blaring until long after dark.”
