Red lipsticks are a makeup lover’s best friend. Ranging from elegant to bold, it is frequently used in different makeup looks, especially at this time of the year. A Christmas look is never complete without a pop of red. These 5 lipsticks are the top best ones to buy for this season.

The first lip product is Christian Louboutin’s Rouge Louboutin Velvet Matte Lipstick. An opulent colour, richly pigmented, which provides comfort and protects against dryness. Applied precisely, it is a full coverage lipstick that does not feather for at least 4 hours. The beautiful metal body and the turret-like crown cap which is topped with a small ring threaded with a silk ribbon can turn it into a necklace. The design was inspired by Middle Eastern antiquities and the Art Deco movement. Christian Louboutin himself believes lipstick is a woman’s magic wand, so it is vital to transform it into a treasured jewel. This haute couture product costs £70 and can be found online or in department stores like Selfridges and Harrods.

In second place stands Taylor Swift’s favourite red lip, NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in the shade Dragon Girl. With a more practical application than a lipstick, this pencil is known for its creamy texture, rich pigmentation, long lasting and non-drying formula. It can be used for lining, all-over lip colour or pairing with other lip products. This velvety matte lip costs £21 on the NARS website. In Leicester, it is only sold in John Lewis department store.

The third product on the list is Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Underage Red. The brand claims it is a life-proof lipstick that you can eat or drink with it on and it will still stay flawless all day. The creamy formula is applied like a gloss but sets to a true matte finish. Even though it is a 24-hour wear, it is rather comfortable. On top of this, it is a vegan product and 100% cruelty-free. Price-wise, it is £20 online and can be found in Debenhams in Leicester.

For the fourth product we cannot forget about MAC’s famous red lipsticks. Despite having several red shades, the public’s favourite seems to be Ruby Woo, a very vivid blue-red. This intense lip colour provides a completely matte finish. Besides that, it lasts at least 8 hours without feathering as it is fade-proof. At a more accessible price, it costs £16.50 and can be bought online, by Debenhams and John Lewis.

Last but not least, Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lipstick in Fatal Red. A cheaper but equally pigmented product, which is known for its creamy feel, enriched with honey nectar, and its intense and captivating shades. This is the perfect red lipstick for a student budget as it is only £6.99 and can be bought in Superdrug and Boots.

Other lipsticks who could not make the list but deserve to be mentioned are Dior Rouge Dior No.999 Lipstick, Chanel Rouge Coco Gabrielle Lipstick, Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture No.1 Rouge Lipstick, Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Créme and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire and Ice, which has been around since the 1950’s and was worn by celebrities like Marilyn Monroe.
