Sunday saw the return of the 71st Annual Golden Globes, which celebrates our favourite Films and TV shows starring and created by our friends over the pond. I’m here to bring you the fashion roundup on behalf of the sassy and incredible looking ladies from the awards ceremony, something I love doing for Demon Media Online. Without further ado, let’s see who wore what in the first of my two part Golden Globes, which ends with my top five outfits from the evening!

My girl, Jennifer Lawrence, who won the award for Best Supporting Actress for a Musical or Comedy for American Hustle wore a dress by her all-time favourite designer: Dior. However, unlike the spectacular gown that she wore at the 2013 Oscars and before, I don’t think this is really as successful. Nevertheless, Jennifer Lawrence brought a little bit of dark magic to the outfit with dark lipstick and nails, smoky eye shadow and dark accessories. Not my favourite look of the evening, but still pretty!

The winner of the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy – for American Hustle, Amy Adams wore Valentino to the event. The extreme plunging dress with a lighter shade of red in the skirt of the dress was a winner with a lot of people. Normally, a lot of people are severely against red dresses on a red carpet but I say ‘who cares?’ because Amy looks incredible, glamorous and sexy! Her hair pulled out of her face in a twisted style works well with the neckline of the dress and the minimal jewellery creates more emphasis on that plunge!

Soon-to-be mummy, Olivia Wilde, did not hesitate in the dress department of Gucci Premiere. She did not let her beautiful bump stop her from pulling out all the stops in the green sequin gown and it’s a great look on her. The green against her slightly pale skin works incredibly well, as well as her brown to blonde ombre hair, curled lazily to create beach waves to die for! Olivia has mastered the cat-eye look and could not look sassier than this!

Equally pregnant Drew Barrymore also had the same lack of hesitation as Olivia, when she arrived at The Golden Globes red carpet in a floral – and very summery – Monique Lhuillier Spring/Summer 2014 dress. To match the occasional orange flower on the dress, Drew paralleled her Roger Vivier heels in the same tone to bring to us a colour scheme, which is making me crave summer! Drew is another leading lady who attended the event with her hair sleek and tucked behind her ears, out of her face, it’s a look I hope to recreate in future days to come because its elegance speaks volumes. Love the look, Drew!

Country pop sensation Taylor Swift was at the event also! She wore a Carolina Herrera pre-autumn/winter gown from the 2014 collection. The somewhat two-tone dress was a great look for Taylor and was a breath of fresh air in comparison to her usual slinky and sexy option. She did a great match when teaming her rosy red lips to the similar red to the dress, and with the black of the chest area of the dress breaking apart from all the pink – the breaths of fresh air continue.

Girls actress, Allison Williams attended to the event in a gorgeous and sleek Alexander McQueen gown from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Not only do I love the monochrome effect of the dress but I also love the two-tone effect, which creates the effect of a top and dress instead of a gown. Similar to most other outfit choices of the night, it’s different, unique and quirky, which is something I love in event outfit choices. Allison opted for a slick and sleek hairstyle for the event and it’s a great choice as it reveals the perfect contouring of her makeup, gorgeously glittering earrings and the structural front of the McQueen gown.

Michelle Dockery attended the Golden Globes in a dress from Oscar de la Renta’s spring/summer 2014 collection. The simple grey dress with gold detailing and an appealing waterfall bottom ensures that the Downton Abbey star look elegant and modern at the same time and by adding a dash of colour in her petal pink lipstick, Michelle looks great!

Make way for another Downton Abbey star, this time; it’s Laura Carmichael who wore a gorgeous monochrome Viktor and Rolf dress to the event. Similar to Beth Behr’s dress from the People’s Choice Awards, which I wrote about last week, Laura embraces the unconventional monochrome style, with the skirt of her dress being half white like the top, but half black in a ruffled effect. By having a dark, smoky eye look, Laura has added a bit more darkness to her outfit, which works so well. Great look Laura, I can imagine we’ll be seeing more from you!

Emilia Clarke, the British rose who plays the undefiable Daeneryes Targaryen in fantasy book-turned-hit TV show, Game of Thrones, attended the Golden Globes in a strong strapless Proenza Schouler dress. I chose this outfit in the list of my favourites because of the structure. Unlike most other dresses with splits, Emilia’s Proenze Schouler dress’ split can be seen right at the front of the gown as opposed to the common left or right of the dress. It’s added a bit more uniqueness to the dress, which would otherwise be a normal strapless gown. I love the loose curls and very rosy makeup, which makes Emilia’s already unusually gorgeous face sparkle.

Star of the Palme d’Or winning film, Blue Is The Warmest Colour, Adele Exarchopoulos arrived on the scarlet carpet in a navy blue Miu Miu dress. One of the many reasons I’ve chosen this gown is because of the upside down embellishment. It’s upside down because normally a lot of embroidery happens at the northern region of dresses. I also love the cut-outs in the side and the structural chest part of the dress. Adele is another lady to perform the inevitable slicked back hairstyle and it works well with this style of dress to give some emphasis on the different detailing from head-to-toe. Not only can I not wait to see the movie that everyone is talking about, but I’m looking forward to seeing more from Adele – including her Miu Miu campaign…

Star of the nominated Masters of Sex, Caitlin Fitzgerald, wore an unusual but earth-shatteringly beautiful Emilia Wickstead dress with peach and blue heels to the event. Whist most of the other leading ladies wore red, black or something sparkly, Caitlin switched up those rules in this baby blue number. I love the high rise of the neck with the short sleeves and obvious waterfall style of the dress to reveal her shoes. All emphasis is on the dress because her makeup and hair remains pretty minimal but well done in terms of laid back, simple yet effective. I wish I could pull of dresses like these!

Actress Leslie Mann wore a black, lacy Dolce & Gabbana dress with peplum detailing around the waist and a scallop effect at the top. You know me, I’m a fan of the typically-gothic and black outfit, so choosing Leslie’s outfit was a no brainer, as Kevin Bacon would say. Her straight hair, which is pulled to one side, is a great look and choice for her strapless gown, it means that you can see her earrings but you can also see her hair and the creative neckline. Teamed with gold in the clutch and bracelet – and in her hair too! – Leslie got it right!

Sally Hawkins who starred alongside Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine wore a vintage Dior gown from William Vintage. Even without knowing that this dress is vintage, you can see how classic and pretty this dress is and how well it fits in the vintage category. The ¾ sleeve of the dress is a great addition to key details of the dress and works well with the embroidery of the top as well as the slight A-line of the skirt. To add more vintage prettiness to Sally’s look, her hair is curled and placed in an up-do to reveal the high neckline and her minimalistic makeup. This is a great dress and it’s nice to see vintage-style dresses on the catwalk even in 2014!
