Having lost an ‘Orange’ from its name, the well-loved local pub has gained a fabulous new menu and amazing deals with its reopening, all courtesy of independent family business Wells&Co. Demon Media was lucky to receive an invitation to scope out the space and try their new menu. I am happy to report to all of you, who were sad about the Orange Tree’s closing – cheer up, you will love The Tree! They made a conscious effort to keep the vibe of our beloved pub, with the interior’s wooden surfaces and warm, inviting colours, the garden that is just perfect for a warm summer evening and the friendly faces of their staff and events such as Glastontree. To spice things up, they brought a new and exciting menu and some new traditions to The Tree.

They offer a diverse Vegan Menu – complete with gluten-free options and very respectful about allergies or intolerances. Gone are the days, when you can’t have a choice if you have an intolerance, at The Tree you will have almost as many choices as someone who is choosing from their regular menu. Their pot of ‘Seitan and Veg Gumbo’ looked and smelled mouth-watering and completely filled me up with its vegetarian deliciousness. Our Editor-in-Chief, Francisca, who has recently become gluten and lactose intolerant, was over the moon about her choice of ‘Margot’. She said “this was the best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had,” and that’s a big compliment from someone who has tried loads of different places lately. They also have a vast selection of cocktails, mocktails, craft beers, spirits and wines on their drinks menu. You can enjoy these at a tempting price at their ‘Happy Hour’, every Sunday to Friday, with two cocktails for only £8.

Besides ‘Happy Hour’, they have ‘Happy Mondays’ with 2-4-1 pizzas all day, ‘Bruce’s Vegan Feast’ every Wednesday, with head chef and The Orange Tree alumni, Bruce Hardie’s favourites, where you can enjoy a two-course vegan meal for £10. They even have ‘Sunday Roast’ every Sunday from 12 PM, for those of you who love the family tradition.

Their atmosphere is fun and welcoming, their prices are reasonable and their deals are amazing. There is a lot more I could say about The Tree, in order to convince you to give it a go, whether you’ve loved the Orange Tree or you’ve never been before, but the first thing I noticed upon entering was what really struck a chord with me:  they have only been officially open for a week and the place was full! Which immediately gave me an idea of how great this place would be. It was buzzing with people from all walks of life – families with children, friendship groups, couples, that lonesome man drinking on his own… It doesn’t matter what the place is called, it is still loved by people, and that is showing.
