We all want great skin, but what a lot of people fail to understand is they are not using an essential product in their daily skincare routine and only think that it should be used when you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun.

Sunscreen! I don’t hear a lot from people talking about them using sunscreen as part of their skincare regime for great skin and it’s criminally underrated.

I didn’t think anything about sunscreen being such a useful thing until I watched a lot of TikTok videos that discussed the health benefits as well as skincare benefits that sunscreen provides.

A lot of people assume that just because it’s not sunny, they don’t need to apply sunscreen but this is not true because this can lead to your skin being damaged even if it’s cloudy or rainy.

One of the benefits of using sunscreen is that it can help prevent discolouration and dark spots from sun damage and will help maintain a smoother and more even skin tone as well.

Another advantage to adding sunscreen to your skincare regime is that it prevents the sign of ageing. Without using sunscreen and having repeated sun exposure with little to no protection can cause damage to your elastin, collagen and skin cells. Over time this can eventually lead to premature signs of ageing, this also can include fine lines and wrinkles.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, daily use of sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher can reduce the risk of developing skin cancer by 40%. Amazingly, skin cancer can be reduced by that amount by just using sunscreen every day.

When trying to decide on what type of sunscreen to get can be difficult and overwhelming because of all the options you can choose from.

It’s essential to choose a sunscreen with the right amount of SPF and any SPF that’s 30 or higher will fully protect your skin.

It’s important to also look for a sunscreen that has a broad spectrum and this means the product will shield both UVA and UVB rays.

As well as this, it’s vital to have a water-resistant sunscreen because this will protect the skin in the water for a certain amount of time.

In terms of my recommendation, I currently use the LA Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid sun cream daily before applying my foundation. During my 6 months of experience using it, I found it to work great for my combination skin.
