The transition from catwalk to high-street has always been a fascination for many writers in the fashion community. The high-streets ability to adapt designs and use catwalk inspiration as well as transforming pieces into affordable prices is extremely challenging; especially if the brands aim to do it effectively.
With more and more celebrities opting for the high-street version of many clothes, it is no wonder than society is following suit and the lower priced brands are becoming more and more popular. However, the demand for quality and ability to portray catwalk designs and on-style trends is still significantly high.
Let’s explore the trends that have entered the fashion world with vengeance:
Monochrome
The monochrome trend has taken the fashion community by storm, with its elegance and chic-ness combining to make a smart and tailored look. Moreover, the array of patterns that is incorporated within the monochrome spectrum is vast, meaning there is a pattern to suit every shape, age and style.
The designer catwalks this year were a sea of black and white, in a variety of shapes and sizes. The tailoring hugged every curve of the body with immaculate detail. This may be daunting for many, but the contrasting colours are very flattering! The graphic colour theme creates drama, suggesting that the wearer is a force to be reckoned with. Many designers paired their designs with a high waist statement belt, and block colour bag to add more definition.
ASOS are particularly on the money with their monochrome pieces at the moment. The use of contrasting colours (mainly black and white, although some brands have incorporated another bold colour to add another dimension) creates a statement piece but is also not too daring; catering for the more composed and subtle females.
Stripes
The designer catwalks had a very linear approach to fashion week this season. Marc Jacobs pioneered the new movement in stripes showcasing curved, long, and continuous lines. They were almost like optic illusions!
Blue and white stripes have always been a symbol of regattas, sailors and all things to do with the high seas. Moschino’s approach to an age old design was clashing block colour against the stripes; a statement piece, which is also very feminine.
Missguided takes a very tailored and sophisticated approach to the stripe trend. From blazers to midi dresses, their main focus is the bold print and contrasting colour schemes. The transition from catwalk to high street is evident. The above image shows detailed blazers, mid length dresses and tailored waists. Missguided adds to these examples with a modern and urban edge with the cut out designs and contrasting leather sleeves!
