Earlier this week, I arrived back to the warm comforts of my own home after a very muddy Leeds Festival to find all of the gossip and drama from this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. I’m typing away my fashion highlights for this year’s VMAs whilst watching Miley Cyrus’ very questionable performance that has caused the whole world to throw their opinions up in the air. After all, she is just being Miley – and despite popular opinion I love her for it!
Let’s start with another American Sweetheart; love-songstress Taylor Swift. Her navy, plunging Herve Leger by Max Azria gown wowed us for sure. Not to mention her retro-glam curls and red lipstick. In comparison to most other ladies who attended the event in a very daring fashion, Taylor chose Hollywood Glamour as her theme and worked it so well. I must say, she was indeed the best dressed out of the whole evening!
Girls’ actress Allison Williams came in close second in her beautifully embroidered off-white Valentino dress. While most of the other ladies, like Taylor Swift, chose floor-length gowns, Allisons Valentino option was perfect. The long sleeves and high neck added to the vintage-glamour look that I am really into right now as well as bringing some class to the party. The messy up hair-do exposed the Valentino dress’s intricate detail around the neck and shoulder line. Her make-up choice was a slightly orange-nude gloss and a very well done smokey eye to bring out the blue-grey of her eyes.
Up next is one of my favourite Brit singers, Ellie Goulding. She wore an extremely gorgeous nude dress that was covered neck to toe in spikes. The spikes around the neck area was calmed a little by the thigh-high split, which showed Ellie’s perfect running pins and her gorgeous choice of nude shoes. Sometimes too much nude is a bit of a killer – might as well be naked – but the silver in the studs and the pink of her lips really broke it up a bit. Needless to say, Ellie rocked the punk theme that has been in my heart since the Met Gala!
Finally, to add to the wonderful women wearing long gowns, Naya Rivera a.k.a the feisty Santana in Glee wore a long-sleeved, floor-length black cut-out gown. Her black gown was a perfect match with her long black locks and dark make up. Similar To nude, too much black can be a bit it of an overkill, provoking too much of a goth look. Personally however it is a look I simply love. As a fan of black clothing myself I tip my invisible hat to Naya’s vampy choice. It’s not only flattering, but it’s extremely sexy and very appealing.
