What a better way to start 2014’s first Fashion Friday than with a fashion round up from this year People’s Choice Awards? With the award ceremony being one of the first few this year, we can expect that all the nominees and celebrities in attendance are going to pull out all the stops – and they delivered!
The PCA’s are all about the people –that’s you – who vote for all the TV shows, films, actors and musicians for awards that spread all over the board from best fan-base to favourite actress. Sandra Bullock and the oh-so handsome Justin Timberlake were the night’s big winners with Sandra picking up four awards including Favourite Movie Actress, Favourite Movie Duo (with George Clooney for Gravity), Favourite Comedic Movie Actress for The Heat and Favourite Dramatic Actress also for Gravity. Justin picked up three including Best R&B Artist, Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Album for The 20/20 Experience! Congrats!
First up for my fashion roundup is the big winner himself, Mr Timberlake, with his glass awards. Justin wore an all black ensemble: suit – with no tie unlike his hit song – slim fitting trousers, black shirt and very shiny shoes. I know what you’re thinking, “ugh, you only chose this outfit because it’s all black,” well, yes, kind of but it’s actually a very smart look for a man and Justin pulls it off well. He has definitely brought sexy back. Ha.
Up next is Desi Lydic, star of MTV show ‘Awkward’, but she’s hardly looking awkward in this very fitting magenta dress. When I saw this on the PCA highlights, I couldn’t help but add her into my roundup. The dress is flattering and doesn’t need any embellishments, long train or puffiness in the skirt to give it the class it needs for an awards ceremony. Desi’s up-do and pretty-in-pink makeup do all of the work for her. The silver in the belt works well against the tone of the dress; overall, this dress is a winner!
2 Broke Girls star, Kat Dennings is up next with a gorgeous black floral strapless dress. While Desi went for a sleeker number with her hair up high, Kat opted for more of an A-line skirt with her hair in very loose curls. I love this because it’s very simple. Nothing makes me happier than an outfit that is all about the dress and not about the amount of makeup or hairspray that’s keeping someone’s hair up high. With Kat’s pale complexion, you’d think that the black dress is too much for her, but it’s very flattering against her rosy tones!
Sara Bereilles is up next on my PCA Fashion roundup wearing a very cute black and white dress. It’s very Wednesday Addams-meets-Karl Lagerfeld because of the white collar and sleeve cuffs and the laser cut-outs of the dress. It’s very feminine-meets-masculine, which is one of my all-time favourite trends in the fashion industry. It allows women to have more of an edge in their wardrobe, and an edge is certainly what we get here with Sara’s combination of dress, white clutch and heels with lips on the top. Love!
The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, who also presented an award alongside her ex-boyfriend but on-screen boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, looked delightfully sparkly on Wednesday night’s ceremony. The high neck and long sleeve like Nina’s is something I’ve always liked in a dress style and she pulls it off without a hitch. There is a little bit of ‘too much going on’ but I think with the minimal makeup that she’s got going alone with the messy up-do, it counterbalances the amount of embellishment she has on the black dress she chose for the evening. Nina could wear a Tesco carrier bag and still look to-die for!
Another ‘2 Broke Girls’ star alert! This time it is Beth Behrs who is wearing probably one of my favourite dresses of the evening. Not only is it classy as hell and looks great on her but she also works monochrome very well. The bottom panel of the dress is split into two, which gives the monochrome trend a bit of a twist on the usual black and white that happens. Beth also has a great choice of shoe, wearing strappy t-bar heels in black to add a little more darkness to the monochrome madness that she’s winning at. Another lady with minimal jewellery, pretty-in-pink makeup and a loose hairstyle; give this girl an award for crying out loud!
The aforementioned hunk from The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder, is the second gentleman on my People’s Choice Award fashion roundup. Here we see Ian in dark jeans, a very pale blue shirt, grey skinny tie and smart black jacket – bit of a mismatch of colours and styles but it’s very fitting to the vampire bad boy. Ian’s dishevelled fashion man look has it going on for him and I do love a skinny tie and a crooked smile. Swoon!
Naya Rivera is next wearing a tan, white and black Michael Kors dress with an extreme drop a the back. Showing a new hairdo, Naya looked great in this dress for sure. Her volumised caramel locks work well with the neutral tones of the top half of the Michael Kors dress – again, minimal jewellery – but it’s a definite trend for this season and looks great!
Lastly but certainly not least is ‘Girls’ star Alison Williams in a blue and white David Koma dress with pointed heels and a gorgeous smile. Alison looks great in royal blue and there is no other colour that this blue works best with than white. The architectural-like structure of the dress gives an edge to an otherwise lovely dress, belt included! Her hair looks great in a laidback up-do, slyly showing off her lashings of liner and pale pink gloss – it’s a great look and I hope to see a lot more like this from Alison, who has a killer wardrobe!
That’s all for now but check back soon when I give you my fashion roundup for one of the best music award ceremonies in the world at the end of the month: The Grammy’s.
