The new season has officially started, and with the influx of new faces comes new friends – and new fashion trends!

As the new academic year kicks off it, I find that it is important to dress well but comfortably for days at university. There are many different looks and styles you can turn to, especially as we are heading into Autumn/Winter. Whatever your style, Leicester’s high street offers an array of outfits for students at great prices.

Whether you are in lectures all day or heading to the library to do work, you want to be as comfortable as possible. A casual tee shirt either in a block colour or print with a pair of jeans will be the ideal option for a simple and casual look. However if you want to dress a little bit smarter a long sleeved shirt is for you. From patterned shirts (such as checkered and floral) to block colour oxford shirts you will not be struggling for choice. Shops such as Topman and even Primark offer a variety of shirts and tees to suit not only your style but also your budget. H&M do a great range of printed t-shirts for £7.99 and under for all of your casual needs!

As we are heading into the colder months, knitted jumpers and sweatshirts will once more be making an appearance from the back of your wardrobe to the rails in shops. Jumpers are one of the staple garments all men should have as they can be worn on their own or over a smart shirt or casual tee. If you want to layer up further with a jacket, a lighter weight jumper will be the perfect option to avoid you becoming too warm throughout the day.  High street stores such as River Island and H&M offer a wide range of sweatshirts and jumpers, ranging from £20-£30. With those stores bringing out the best of their collections for autumn, this is the perfect time to invest in your knitwear for the new academic year.

As summer draws to a close wearing shorts has come and gone for another year, now it’s back to jeans and trousers. Deciding what bottoms to wear with your top before a 9 o’clock lecture isn’t perhaps high on your list of priorities… However a pair of jeans and even jogging bottoms will make for a great but causal outfit. The high street offers a variety of jeans and sweatpants from around £10 at Primark to £30 at Topman to once again suit your style and budget.

The start of the new academic year means that it’s time to invest in some new outerwear. Depending on your body shape and personal style, there are various options from pea coats to parkas to decide from. However, most jackets aren’t cheap so it is perhaps best to consider a coat which will last you for more than a couple of months. You have a brilliant selection to pick from: New Look, H&M, Primark, ASOS and Topman offer a variety of outerwear from £30.

Rolling up to lectures with your books in a plastic bag is a complete no-go! A more practical and fashionable option to maneuver your materials from class to class would be a strong backpack or smart satchel. Again, high street stores such as River Island and Topman offer various styles of back-to-school bags for you to choose from. River Island currently have a black leather look backpack for £32 – a bit pricey but a good investment.
