Orphaned by his parents dying in a car crash, Lewis journeys to the town of New Zebedee, Michigan to live under the care of his late mother’s brother, uncle Jonathon (Jack Black) in his mansion with hidden secrets and a ghost hiding around the corner. The film has a cosy film that is very family-oriented with an enchanting and captivating theme to it.

Set in 1955, Orphan Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) thinks he is embarking on a new chapter on his life with his uncle Jonathon in his big mansion, unaware of its hidden secrets and an ominous ghostly presence looming around the next corner.
Lewis is left to his own devices to discover the hidden mysteries of his uncle Jonathon mansion, allowing the story to take on a spooky atmosphere with a mystery around every corner. What’s that ticking noise? It’s getting louder and louder.
The character of orphan Lewis is still coming to terms with the death of his parents and when he comes to live with his extraordinary uncle Jonathon. He is a very lonely, isolated and battles his feelings as he battles through the emotional minefield of his new school.
Owen Vaccaro plays a well-manned young man, sporting a geeky pair of goggles, which ties in well when he is studying new supernatural skills from his uncle Jonathon’s old spell books.
Lewis is taught these supernatural skills by his gifted uncle Jonathon’s, who is assisted by his similarly gifted neighbour and quarrelsome pal Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett).
The hidden clock in the walls counts down towards doomsday and it is up to orphan and wizard in training Lewis, his warlock uncle Jonathon and their witchy neighbour Florence Zimmerman to save the world from the ominous ghostly presence of the house’s former tenant, Isaac Izard (Kyle MacLachlan).
